One thing that's different is he flat out calls one of the plays "trash." He happens to be correct in that assessment.

Edit: about 42:15 into the video.

Thanks! Maybe I didn't express myself well enough. Last year I kept hearing from a film guy trying to build a YouTube following how our Coach was apparently so deficient all he could run was a "high school offense," how the route trees were so poorly designed they could never work, etc. that I stopped listening to him.

This new guy explains the concept and the reason Coach called the play (based on tendencies of the other team, for example) how a good decision was made, a poor decision was made and a better option was available but not pursued . . . how the same play could have been executed better . . . or, sometimes, a great play call and it was run well or even better than expected. He seems fair to me and the other guy came across as bashing. Maybe it was due to his disinterest in laying blame at the feet of our QB. I don't know.

Speaking of which, it's tough for me sometimes, knowing things that can't be discussed on a public message board, and still trying to interact fairly with everyone as much as possible.

I just wanted folks to have a different voice and perspective. He definitely isn't a UAA cheerleader. LOL! :)

It's weird that some people here have negative opinions on the guy and his breakdowns. You can quite literally see exactly what he's talking about, whether he's criticizing or celebrating a play. And most of the people who denigrate him openly admit that they either rarely watch the videos or haven't in a long time.

Thank you ET. I want to check it out. Did you post it in another thread I commented on? If so I have actually watched that guy....

I don't know wtf I'm talking about either but I really didn't like how much dirt Mertz had to eat in that game. As the game went on, I could see not wanting to pass to keep him healthy.

I think the difference between James and Seth Varnadore is that James really believe in his opinion and would heavily criticize the coaching decisions if he thinks they're doing something that is "suboptimal". So he comes off as a know it all and seems like he's beating a dead horse without adding any additional context.

Seth on the other hand goes into what the play is trying to accomplish and why the coach might think that play can work and he doesn't really bring too much of his opinion into the review. Strictly stating what is there, what can be there, why it may or may not have worked.

Both can be entertaining and informative. James, who's football acumen is coaching flag football, present his ideas as a typical fan would to their friends, so we can all easily understand and digest: counting the amount of players in box to determine run vs pass, route trees, etc. Of course our offense needs to be better but I think it's probably more nuance than installing some more route trees and counting how many defenders are in the box.

Also, I like GNFP's contents, and I think a lot of his observation is good and his film review is good to get some understanding of what happened. That said, we need to understand he's a layman that is providing his opinion on what our offense should do. He may watch a lot more film than most fans but he's ultimately just a fan that have limited knowledge of what goes on in a game prep. So I think everyone just need to keep that in mind when he gives his takes and not parrot "Napier doesn't have a modern offense" as gospel.

Said, “Charlotte is telling you, in your home stadium, that it does not respect your passing game because it’s trash.”

    Ouchie.

To the contrary, Seth is charitable. James pulls no punches.

I am 100% certain if we complain enough times about the exact same things over, and over and over again -- "route trees, needing an Offensive Coordinator, play calling, O concepts, demanding a Special Teams Coordinator, etc..." Billy will make the change before November.

However, I think we should increase our complaints about those exact same things to 15-20 posts per thread (from the 8-10 we do now) to speed up the process. Heck if we can get that number to 30+ per thread, there is a damn good chance he will hire an OC and change everything before the Kentucky game.

    We can do this!

OR .... wait to see what happens in the off-season when 99% of all coaches make staff and major scheme changes? Naaaahhh....that makes too much sense.

You hope recruits don't watch this and buy into his snake oil too. Be a help to Gator nation and not a hindrance. I started watching his videos and then quit, because there is a definite bias feeling to his comments.

There's just nothing on YouTube worth spending more than a minute on. If Spurrier had a show I'd watch.

Seeing "ditto" threads on youtubers is boring.

When I watch a Gator game the score board tells me all I need to know I don’t need to rehash or dissect every nuance of every play at every position every possession!
I think we beat Charlotte. That is what the score board says!

Agree with just about everything you said but one thing I really like about GNFP is the discussion and framing of the "analytics" approach and its application to the film review. They helped me understand this better and it should really be applicable to UF since Billy is supposed to be big adherent to that coaching approach. Framing analysis of the film through "expected value" helps with my understanding. They admit they don't have all the data that the coaches have but I like their approach for analyzing a game. It makes it a bit more than just an opinion to my dumb ass self.

I watched a team that surrendered 466 passing yards to Georgia State totally disrespect our passing game and hold us to 1-9 on third down conversions.

I like Shane a lot . . . but no because I think the situation will be resolved differently when the time is right.

The idea that you have to be a former coach or scout to watch film and evaluate talent is over blown. Yes, the average person might not know what something is called but this isn't rocket science. If you are on GC, you are probably just as over obsessed with Florida football as the rest of us and have watched more than 100 games in your life.

It's OK, I give you permission, you can critique coaches, assistants, other analysts, whomever you want.
