On another thread, I questioned how much the political party actually chooses winners and losers. But, of course, the parties do decide who is in the debates. The field is down to seven for Wednesday night's debate.
It's all a pretty bizarre show with Trump so dominating the polls but not at the debates. They're just going thru the motions ... or waiting for him to be forced out?

Stage set for second GOP debate. Here's who's on it | CNN Politics

    Trump 57.3 percent
    DeSantis 13.5 percent
No one else in double digits

Thanks. I'll be sure not to watch.:cool:Nothing underscores the rot in the republican party more than that the two candidates with the most spine and integrity - Christie and Hutchinson - have the worst poll numbers.

It does seem that culture wars are all that matter ... other than Trump, of course.

As stated, Trump owns the GOP. Get back to us when that changes.

Why look at the popular vote? If we elect by winning states, why wouldn't you look at each state in pre election polls? Serious question.

Nationally speaking isn’t what I like. I mean trump couldn’t even win nationally. I like to see what the first few states show to see where there’s a trend. If Nikki can catch on in the first few primaries, we may have something.
The national polls may reflect that trend after the fact.
    I could be wrong.

Agree. The election really only comes down to the swing states. Doesn't matter what CA/NY or TX/FL think right now. It's Georgia, North Carolina, PA, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nevada and Arizona. Those are the key states to win the election.

It really says something when Trump has 57% with 7 other choices of varying alternative ideologies.

still amazing how Desantis dropped like a rock. A year ago he was a star and so many in gop liked and talked about him. including in thfsg. Now it’s back all-in with inmate number P01135809. And nothing really specific on why the move away from RD.

He's made some awful decisions. Going to 6 week abortions was a Presidency killer for him. Why people can't see this is amazing to me. I'm not arguing about what is moral or not, I'm talking about doing what you need to win an election, and being for 6 week abortions or shorter will get you killed at the ballot box.

With a clear party frontrunner this far ahead, all of the gnat challengers are simply hurtling themselves against the windshield of MAGA.

Or in other words their attempt to challenge the leader of a Cult of Peronality formerly known as a political party is failing.
