It would be awesome if the border actually was open. A lot less wasted money and other resources. However, in reality, we spend billions on a pair of massive government bureaucracies (Border Patrol and ICE, not to mention the massive amount we spend on the legal system to deal with immigration) and build a ton of infrastructure, all for the purpose of keeping people out for some reason (not sure why we want less people that want to work). It doesn't seem to be working. So what would be your solution to that issue?

So when did we become a country, in your mind? 1924?

That and investigating dick pics. All those promises they made for the mid terms are nothing more than farts in the wind.

That's rich. A guy who just stated, "[t]he US basically has an open border now . . ." has no business lecturing anybody else about being delusional or not caring about the facts.

You think the southern border is secure? Even remotely so? Even MSM are reporting what a mess the border is and how there are no solutions being introduced. Well no solutions out of giving temporary protected status to hundreds of thousands thereby incentivizing the same behavior going forward.

What people don’t realize is that native born Americans have a negative population replacement birth rate. All of our retirement plans are based on an increasing population. Without immigration where is that population going to come from.

Ofcourse you are correct here the only quibble I have is it’s not really a problem. We need immigration. We need younger taxpayers our entire system is based on it. Every one of our families immigrated here from somewhere else.

Never in our history as a country has the border been "secure." So you can spare me the false dilemma fallacy. The border is in no way "open." There are a ton of federal law enforcement resources down there, and Texas still has its national guard playing games at the border.

Any real solutions to try and make things better requires Congress. And there's zero chance of any meaningful immigration reform happening from there. But I will laugh at the idea that Venezuelans need the "incentive" of TPS to flee from the authoritarian socialist regime currently destroying their country. And let's be clear, people who enter the country in the future aren't eligible for temporary protected status (they had to be in the country before March 9, 2021).

I'm going to be serious here. Why do you want to keep people out? I'd appreciate some serious answers to this question.

This is in the context of people entering the country illegally. You really need a honest answer to that? Why wouldn’t you want to keep people not legally allowed in the US out? That’s a serious question in need of a serious answer.

You mean all our retirement plans are Ponzi schemes reliant on new contributors to pay? Shocking.

Your responses are not worthy of my attention. Your dribble is going to get ignored shortly if you don’t post anything worthy of reading.

i wanted an answer and you responded with a question. Can you give me an honest answer instead of asking a question back? Just give me your honest opinion, and no more bs like asking a question back..

Refugees, migrants and asylum seekers are all different situations. Asylum seekers cannot be denied or sent back. At this point no one is getting sent back because they are all “seeking asylum”. The intake centers and housing for these people are overcrowded and now cities across the country are being overrun. I would full stop entry of all, including those seeking asylum, for a 6 or 12 month period. Allow the system to breathe and figure out a structure going forward. However that portends a Congress that can get anything done; which is in serious doubt.

I've said this for a decade. If the world believes we have an open border, even a teeny, tiny sliver in the door, there are 1 Billion willing to make the walk to the border. Not 1 million, 1 BILLION. A Gallup poll just a few years ago, the largest poll in history of mankind, found that 750,000,000 would make the trip if we had open borders. That's from 180,000,000 adults who 100% would make the trip with their families. Unlike the West, these families are real families, usually 4 to a family. We already have seen record numbers walk the line from Venezuela to Mexico. Numbers up 8,000% over previous highs. If you think a few million is stretching our resources, imagine even 10% making the trip by the end of 2024. We would almost become a 3rd world country unable to feed or house another 100,000,000 people, a 30% jump in the census.

IF the US is serious about having border security(No idea why anyone wouldn't want a secure border), then just spend the money and build a wall like Israel. Simple as that. Use cameras and AI to help and alert the Border Patrol on any potential issues. Doing the status quo isn't working.
