Yep, you could see this type of performance coming a mile away after the hype of UT game, a bunch of starters suspended, and at UK coming up. Not concerned at all.

I expected them to be at least a little flat. During the week it was mentioned that they didn't practice very well, and with a very young team we saw what often happens after a big win the previous week.

It happens like this every season, to almost every team. Yet every year people freak out about it.

It's only a problem if you lose.

I think you add fact that we’re very young and we’re playing an extremely aggressive style of defense. You’re definitely going to be open to a few big plays here and there. Sometimes you get a missed assignment and the receiver is left wide-open streaking down the side line, our players are young, and as they learn. As they get used to the speed of the game having come just from high school. I think you’ll see us get better and better as the season goes along. I’m actually excited for this defense. I don’t think it will be long before we’re back to the old Gator Defense.

I thought he updated his win totals for us after the Tennessee game.

I only saw the first quarter and that was on my phone while I was getting a pedi. Kind of hard to understand what happened.

I assume the kicking game was better lol. Defensive numbers look great. Offense was the issue obviously.

What I thought I saw in Q1 was the o line opening holes when the defense was in zone and mertz hitting soft spots in the same zone defense. I saw a couple of standard Napier plays like that three receiver level concept that mertz hit on. Nothing special other than Mertz having time to hit open guys using the same routes.

I ASSUME that Charlotte changed up their defense to take away the run game and we fell flat. I’ll wait to comment until I see the rest of the game but someone tell me please…

    Is this what happened?

I hope so, because otherwise there's no reason to watch them the rest of the season.

When you ask a question such as this, surely you realize that you will get a myriad of responses. I suggest that watch a replay.

    Agreed
And we are stupid young on defense. Going to take time but those young bucks will grow from the pressure and the defeats.

I shall for sure. That won’t be until Thursday as the game was only on the ESPN+ app out here in SoCal and thus I could not record it.

Very curious in the interim though which is why I asked. If the answer to my question is “yes” then I could see us losing most of our remaining games. This is why I’m curious.

EDIT: this was a reply to claygator- phone didn’t capture the quote

I'll be thrilled if UF looks ugly winning every game left in the regular season and then peaks in the playoff to win our 4th national championship.

Alabama in the early 90s looked like crap winning every game and then thumped Miami in the Sugar Bowl to win the national championship. Miracles do happen.

This was a classic trap game sandwiched between a big rival win and an SEC road opener. I’m hoping this was a wakeup call for this young team.

Yea journalism is all about clicks and him predicting that Billy would get fired was out of bounds in my opinion.

The 2006 Crystal Ball winning Gators struggled through the regular season, winning one "Ugly" game after another.

Everyone remembers Ohio State, when the team absolutely peaked at the end of the season but just go back and look at the scores.

We’ve forced more than that 1 TO but haven’t converted them fully (dropped INTs, fumbles at our feet that we haven’t been able to lie on.

The TOs are gonna come and they’re gonna come in bunches starting this weekend at UK. Book it

I would have liked to see before the half a 2 minute offense, do we even have one? To me this would have been a great practice for I'm sure sooner or later we are going to have to have one. Instead, it was run out the clock and halftime.

Hate to be the contrarian here, but the only 'somewhat sure' win I can see left on our schedule is Vanderbilt.
Mandel probably didn't expect us to pull off a win over Tennessee but our D is much better and their QB is overrated.
We have lost 6-of-7 SEC road games in the last 2 years and Kentucky, S Carolina and Mizzou play very confident at home.
Arkansas had a few guys hurt initially, but they still have a high-quality QB who can throw the ball around and avoid the rush.
