I"ll post this again. Masks don't work. Everyone can keep pushing out BS "studies" but the most comprehensive data is right here.

    https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD006207.pub6/full

We included 12 trials (10 cluster‐RCTs) comparing medical/surgical masks versus no masks to prevent the spread of viral respiratory illness (two trials with healthcare workers and 10 in the community). Wearing masks in the community probably makes little or no difference to the outcome of influenza‐like illness (ILI)/COVID‐19 like illness compared to not wearing masks (risk ratio (RR) 0.95, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.84 to 1.09; 9 trials, 276,917 participants; moderate‐certainty evidence. Wearing masks in the community probably makes little or no difference to the outcome of laboratory‐confirmed influenza/SARS‐CoV‐2 compared to not wearing masks (RR 1.01, 95% CI 0.72 to 1.42; 6 trials, 13,919 participants; moderate‐certainty evidence). Harms were rarely measured and poorly reported (very low‐certainty evidence).

Guess you just choose to ignore the largest study of mask over the past 20+ years. Do you enjoy being ignorant?

It's kind of common sense. Unless you're trained in their usage, have almost no facial hair, constantly swap them, never remove it unless in a sanitized space (not eating at a restaurant), wear sanitized and constantly swapped gloves, never touch your face and sanitize all surfaces you come into contact with anywhere it's pointless. Not to mention even doing all that isn't 100% effective.

It's all for show, just like the TSA at airports which fails to detect things 95% of the time.

LOL. AGAIN, did the authors of the study change or pull their findings? You are clinging to someone that had ZERO involvement in the study commenting on the study and you believe them. Brilliant! Being obtuse on purpose seems like a great plan!

Oh, and I'm fully vaccinated for COVID, though likely won't take the latest booster as I've had the virus at least once already and so should have really good immunity at this point.

You didn’t need to be trained or fitted to wear a surgical mask.

Cloth masks were useless or for show. The only reason to ever go that route was as a last resort, and if things were that bad it would probably just better to avoid contact with other animals.

I mean sure, you don't need to be trained to slap one on your face. But it would likely be good to have a short training on how long they last, when they need to be swapped, how to ensure a good fit, facial hair interference, things like that if you realistically expect them to work as a defense. The only people who wear them regularly in non asian societies are medical staff whom likely know these things.

While perhaps you or I would research products they intend to use for personal safety I assure you that almost nobody in the USA will do the same. Without that it renders them completely pointless as all they really do is slow the spread of disease to make sure the healthcare system isn't overwhelmed.

The fact that training isn't even offered tells me it's 100% theatre. Not that I would wear one anyway

Not sure it is common sense. Most people don’t have expertise in on particle size of viruses. The common sense response would be to mask up because of knowledge that it spreads thru the air.

And research findings about masks isn't exactly definitive.

Your condescending post makes me wonder if you know as much as you like to pontificate about.
PS: I don’t wear a mask. I get all boosters, but there are a few who won’t even do that.

I don't want to denigrate my fellow Americans, but next time you go to Walmart ask 10 random people how often you need to change a mask for it to be effective. Ask what N95 means. Ask if an airborne virus can infect you through the ear hole. Ask them what a virus is.

Then, after receiving "answers", remember that 50% of the population is dumber than average. These are the people tasked with "slowing the spread".
