Insanity. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. When was the last time we had a secure border in the US? Answer, never. When was the last time we didn't have millions of undocumented in our labor force? During the 1950s and early 1960s, when we had the Bracero Program, and the labor come over legally on work Visas.

Want something that actually worked? Institute another Bracero Program. Make those already here and working a part of it. And allow those coming in a chance to participate too. Everything and anything else? More of the same insanity.

To illustrate through hyperbole the folly and wrongness of preemptive crime strategies, one expert said it was statistically true that if if you preemptively locked up every male when they reach 15 and release them at 30, no questions asked, you would reduce crime by 90%.

Aside from it being the obvious humanitarian choice, it comes with an economic upside given our current economic situation. Nice to see Biden doing something to combat inflation, unlike the very pro-inflation and racist Republicans who would rather see construction and service jobs go unfilled. I bet there’s at least 100,000-200,000 workers here that will now be authorized to start working construction and service jobs (where they are having a hard time finding bodies right now). It’s small boost to the legal workforce. I’m guessing some were already working illegally, but now there’s no excuse for them to be off the books.

 

Probably about the same percentage as American Citizens who think like that.

Cons on this board do know that the vast majority of "illegal" immigrants are here because they overstayed their visas, not because they managed to cross the boarder without being caught, right? Right?

Republicans have used this as a wedge issue, and Democrats have basically shut down any debate because historically they viewed immigration as benefiting them politically. 15 years ago most immigration was Mexicans coming to the US to work. Whatever you thought of it, it was probably more beneficial than not. Now you have floods of people around the world exploiting the asylum laws and it is a complete mess.

It has gotten bad enough that Biden needs to take hard action. You can’t just let people step foot in the US, then automatically get to wait it out for years. The whole asylum thing needs to be paused or shut down, then new laws implemented to reform the process.

Surprised that Republicans are so incensed over Biden's decision to allow the immigrants to work while their applications for asylum are pending. I always thought that Republicans strongly believed in a work ethic.
