Under pressure from politicians and protesters in New York City, the Biden administration on Wednesday is making all Venezuelans who have lived in the United States since July eligible for temporary protected status, giving more than 200,000 migrants who crossed the border without legal documentation the right to obtain work authorization and live in the country without fear of deportation.

Under pressure, the Biden admin gives more Venezuelan migrants Temporary Protected Status

    EDIT:
Biden administration announced it waived 26 federal laws to permit more border wall construction in southern Texas, a move that builds on one of the most controversial cornerstones of the Trump administration.

The Department of Homeland Security posted the announcement overnight in the Federal Registry, which said the administration was waiving federal laws such as the Clean Air Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act and the Endangered Species Act for the wall construction in Starr County, Texas, using federal funds appropriated in 2019.

“There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in the notice.

Illegal crossings near record highs. The government does nothing. The US basically has an open border now and it’s causing serious issues across the country. Good thing our President is asking for another 20 billion for Ukraine to protect their border.

I've heard for years that this country needs immigration reform. But as you say, "The government does nothing." I think the government includes so-called Republicans, who could be the main source of the problem. Right now these so-called Republicans are trying to shut down the government altogether.

Meh. Crossing dropped this year to a post pandemic low until the last month or two which has seen a seasonal spike. We've had record stops from people surrendering for asylum, not record people sneaking through an open border.

You are delusional and I honestly don’t know why you even come on here. Your mind is made up on every issue no matter facts presented.

They don't want immigration reform. They only want to keep people out

Biden is going to have serious issues in the campaign next year with the border. I’m sure he will articulately explain his solution to the growing problem.

Exactly. That’s what I’d like. Start by keeping people out and then focus on reform. How can you reform a system that has no basic structure?

It's hard to walk and chew gum at the same time isn't it? In theory Congress should be capable of handling more than one problem at once

Ironic you call someone stupid and then support your “position” by stating Congress should be capable. Your argument is an oxymoron.

I never post made up facts and not sure what you are calling delusional.

See how the black line is below the yellow and blue line since May and below the yellow since Jan? Well those 3 lines are post pandemic and the black line is the most recent and it is at post pandemic lows. Additionally we had 5,000 more crossings last month than we had in May 2019... a whole 5 thousand. Whoa.. blow me over with a feather.

    Border is what it is.

Do we have a problem? Yes. Is one party better than the other at solving the problem? Not really clear. I hear the rhetoric, but until we have crushing penalties and jail for Americans hiring illegals, it’s all just in the ether. Enforcing laws and protecting the border should be table stakes. Not sure why it’s political. We have woefully elected President after President that do not execute their duty.

Here are some facts for the DHS. Apprehensions are up from 2020, but illegal entry through the “net” is down. The investment in apprehension technology must be working. That should be applauded.

would be great if we stopped fighting about a common interest for all Americans and have elected officials and a President that do their jobs.

    Nationwide Encounters

“Despite the relatively high number of encounters in 2021, the CBP’s improved estimated at-the-border apprehension rate averaged 78% from 2018 to 2020, compared to 35% from 2002 to 2004. This resulted in fewer entries without inspection than in the early 2000s.

According to preliminary estimates at the time, approximately 660,000 people crossing the border evaded apprehension in fiscal year 2021. While this was an increase compared to seen from 2014 to 2020 (160,000 per year), it was still lower than any year from 2000 to 2010 and only one-third as high as estimates for 2000 to 2006.“

What can the data tell us about unauthorized immigration to the US?.

That’s a house bill from 2019. I could post the bills brought forth since then that are “dead on arrival” due to Biden’s threat of veto.

If you let 10 million illegals in the country, what percentage of guys like this do we get?

Is it 1 out of 10? Is it 1 out of 100? Every town is a border town.

2019? That was under the last prez. How'd that wall go? You know, the one he campaigned on and had two years of GOP controlled House and Senate. How much did they get done at the border without the "threat of veto"? I mean, surely they don't just campaign on it to get you all riled up but then never do anything? Yeah, you can bitch about money being wasted in Ukraine, but it's not like the deficit didn't EXPLODE those first two years with the GOP in charge of all the levers. Hey, guess who held all of the levers for 4 years right after 9/11? Go on, guess. A clear and present concern for border security, and it's not like immigration reform wasn't already an issue. But why fix it when you can fearmonger and blame it on the other side and fund-raise with it? Don't forget to check that box to make your one-time contribution a recurring monthly installment, we're counting on you!

So Biden has decided to grant temporary protected status to 470,000 migrants fleeing a dysfunctional Marxist dictatorship. I'm so old I remember when migrants fleeing a Marxist dictatorship from an island roughly 90 miles south of Key West were automatically entitled to asylum.
Speaking of the refugees from the island, while the overwhelming majority went on to become productive law abiding Americans, let's not forget that result wasn't an absolute certainty.
