I am not going to get into the county by county arguments about BBQ in North Carolina and the BBQ sauces. It is all good. I do love Carolina vinegar slaw but I make mine with less sugar. Spent many summer vacations up the mountain from Maggie Valley at Smoky Shadows Lodge with my wife and kids. Haven't been there in years. Great folks ran the place. It was a great place to stay to take long hikes through the southern portions of the Park and not see another hiker all day.
One of my buddies qualified for esa as a boogie boarder. I remember when this little kid from Coco was tearing up the esa.
That year when we went it was Jr. Men, Longboard, and Kneeboard for me. I didn't know there was a boogie board.....interesting!
Its hard to beat 65 and no humidity in August. Thats exactly what it was when we took our daughter back a few weeks ago
Yep. I have the weather for all the places we want to retire and I check it frequently. Boone is consistently the mildest. I have zero interest in retiring in heat and humidity.
Cape Hatteras Light...1986(?), sunset right after the ESA/Quicksilver Surfing Championships. There were maybe 12 of us out, head high with bigger sets and I was sharing the waves with this bloke from Australia.
I love North Carolina, but they have nothing on Charleston, Beaufort, Hilton Head, Fripp Island and Edisto Island in SC. I do believe the western part of the state and also the roads absolutely beat SC.
Western North Carolina is the most gorgeous part of the state, as long as you don't need internet or want to use your cellphone.
Wilmington Beach is pretty nice tho as I recall as long as the canes stay away. Had a Raleigh friend take me over several years ago. Of course I wanted to go west to the mtns but he was a Fla boy and was driving, so to the beach.
^^^ You can subscribe to Musk’s satellite service, Starlink. Likely faster than what you get at home currently. Would use for video calls. Affordability may be a concern
My guess is you went to Wrightsville Beach. Wilmington Beach is actually a part of Carolina Beach and is basically a place no one goes to. Just a few private homes. I've lived here for more than half my life and have never heard anyone reference going there. I've never been accept to drive through to get the Southport Ferry or visit the aquarium at Ft Fisher. If you cane to a beach in Wilmington, It was most likely Wrightsville, but possibly Carolina Beach, Kure Beach or Topsail Island.
It's our next door neighbor in East Tennessee. Asheville is a unique place to visit (and highly recommended). @tilly's daughter goes to school in the state.
If Elon Musk came to my house and dropped his drawers I would kiss him on his rosy red ass. Starlink has been a savior for us in the mountains. Had Hugesnet for $90/month limited to 25 gig data per month which lasted about two weeks if you were really careful. DirectTV $200/month with three mini-genies and sports package. Hard wire phone $75/month for unreliable copper wire Frontier service. Out at least 4-5 days a month, with a rapid response time of 4 days for servce. That's $365/month. Starlink $110/month and ditched all three cause I can use my cell phone through Starlink too. I already had YouTubetv for when we winter in Florida. Starlink dropped their 1 terabyte per month limit a while back. I could never use that much anyway. Loooooooooooooooove, Starlink!!!!
