This is the usual bullshit lie cops produce to justify tasing/shooting people, no surprise the police-ass kissers believe it LOL

Naturally we have the wackos who hate the police and refuse to follow simple orders, I'm completely ok with these officers doing their job and I'm happy that idiot was arrested

Exactly. Tazer should only be used to subdue dangerous or violent subjects. Similar to a firearm, it should still be seen as a last resort to subdue a perp. Last resort for an armed subject might be lethal. Last resort for an unarmed belligerent should be the tazer. Too many cops seemingly go straight to it because of its supposed “non-lethal” nature. But people can and have been killed/severely injured from being hit by tazers so they shouldn’t be used loosely.

Where was that cop when the LSU band was blatantly interrupting our tribute to Tom Petty? Lol...

So what you're saying is that inappropriate aggressive behavior by police against an innocent citizen in one jurisdiction should be dismissed because of completely unrelated repugnant criminal behavior in another jurisdiction?

The way you framed your post was that by continuing to play the band was preventing people from leaving. The way I read the story some attendees at the game wanted to stay to listen to the band. Nobody was forcing them to stay. The most likely explanation is that the cops wanted to leave the stadium as soon as possible and didn't want to stay another 10 or 15 minutes because the band continued to play after the game.

Was there something in the story that said the crowd was getting out of hand?

Police summary: there was a small chance of violence breaking out after the game which is why we had to preemptively get violent ourselves.

I understand the cops wanted to clear the stadium. But did they have just cause and a legal right to do so? If not, the cops tazed an innocent man just doing his job. The cops were within their rights to ask the band director to stop playing. But what gives the police the right to use force to get the band to stop playing?

If you're not breaking a law, you don't have to comply with a police request. And if you're not breaking the law, and the police use force against you for not complying with a request, it's the police who are breaking the law. So again, what law was the director breaking again? Last I read, we still had the right to assemble.

Would like some more information that the article didn't address but the biggest issue is WHY were the cops trying to get everyone to leave? Several possibilities: 1. Trying to get people to leave because there MIGHT be a fight that breaks out between rival schools (that's not a good enough reason to prevent a maybe possibility). 2. Were they trespassing? Was this school board property that has to be vacated by a certain time (this is maybe the only reason for the tasing because it breaks an actual law). 3. Their overtime pay was ending and they didn't want to be working for free. (you know, government employee and all).

I would go with number 3. Similarly they could have been hired to provided security for the game as a side gig for a fixed fee and didn't want to stay at the stadium any longer than necessary. Obviously just speculation and it depends on department policy it's not all that unusual for police departments to permit their officers to work after hours as private security security guards.

Well that’s not how it happened if you actually watch the video. It could have been handled better but it was a terrible example the director made for those kids. Luckily it was black cops so no whitey to blame this time.

“Whitey” vehemently defends trash violent cops whether the cops are black or white so this isn’t saying much

    Because it's off topic.

If this thread was about the DOJ finding widespread corruption for the past decade in a metro-sized police department, you would try to hijack it with a story about a cop getting a cat out of a tree.

Exactly. The song was finished in less than 2:30. Even if the cops had some legal right to clear the stadium, you exercise your discretion and wait for 2 1/2 minutes so some kids who are actually doing something constructive with their lives...playing in their high school band...can finish a song. They weren't breaking into cars, harassing other fans or destroying property, they were playing a song.

Um, yeah. Thats why I have my opinion. They had no right to force him to stop playing. He didnt act in a violent way at all and tazing him was unlawful force. Do you actually know any LEO's? I sure do and they would agree with me

So it's not clear why they needed to quit playing right then? An important piece of info.
Beyond that and first of all, the band director was a jerk. "Get out of my face" is not the right response, especially for an educator in front of a 100 or so students. He should have complied.
But since he didn't, the prudent thing for the police would be to simply wait a couple of minutes, and then maybe file a complaint with the superintendent.

Seems like both sides should have handled it better.
