I’m pretty sure it was three second half interceptions to Auburn. Fred Taylor may not have been in the backfield, but that part I remember pretty well and we were up and there’s no reason to throw the ball.
They used the pick play several times, and one for a huge play before their first TD. And their O-line was holding our D-line all game long too. I also noticed that the cameras of ESPN were looking at our jersey grabbing while not focusing on all their holding that they were getting away with on our D-line. For the most part they let both teams just play...
We threw several interceptions in 93 and 94 between Dean and wuerffel those years. I don't argue that. We just never blew a huge lead like the one poster suggested. Those auburn games were irritating because we were often in control of the games but always let them back in instead of pulling away.
They initially called targeting but reversed it after review. It happened right in front of me and I thought it was, but after replays I agree with the reversal
I actually think you misremember this. IIRC it was taken in the 2d half of the 2001 SEC Championship game when the Vols went against LSU. I'm old, and forgetful but I think this is correct.
Also does BVD still post his UF-UT postgame videos?[/QUOTE] BVD does still post. I thought he had died from all his medical issues. Not as enjoyable as he once was. Just complained about the refs the whole video just to say the refs didn't cost U-Tried the game.
Here's an article about the 93 game. We were up 10-0 and about to make it 17-0 when DW threw a pick 6. We were also up 27-14 in the 2nd half. https://vault.si.com/vault/1993/12/...d-goal-lifted-them-past-fourth-ranked-florida Here's a story about the 94 game. Auburn 36, Florida 33 - UPI Archives The 94 game itself was back and forth- we certainly didn't have a 3 TD lead but we were winning when DW threw a late pick that Auburn turned into the game winning TD. Obviously we should have run BUT if memory serves it was 3rd down and Auburn had time outs. So if that pass is completed we get a first down we win the game. If a run is stuffed, Auburn calls TO, we punt, and they get the ball back anyway. Back to this year- your point is a good one that coaches need to game plan to win, not just make their QB look good. (SOS could do this.) They also need to actually do math. (Looking at you 2017 Atlanta Falcons- idiots!) BUT you can't go into a shell with a whole half remaining and play not to lose. Coaching scared makes the players scared and says you don't have confidence. It felt like we did that in the 3rd quarter- and I think CBN actually admitted this.
Exactly. We were on the verge of blowing the game open but always shot ourselves against auburn those years. As far as the run the clock method I agree as well. Play the clock and the situation just not starting in the 3rd quarter. Also, we have often come out very poorly from halftime under Napier so far. I would love to see some improvement there. Just seems we come out flat more often than not.
It's mentioned in that article on the 93 Auburn game that there was a personal foul that allowed them to go down and kick the game winning FG, it was a horse crap call from horse crap SEC refs. Hard to find video of it of course because Aubie was on probation for their usual cheating so there was no TV.
