I read a lot comments on Twitter from Vols fans that were upset with the last time out. Can’t score 13 in 6 seconds and they knew no good would come from it.
At least 5 posts on multiple threads have attempted to explain this simple concept and it apparently isn’t sinking in. @duggers_dad — Mertz wasn’t “dancing around “ as you insist on saying - he was trying to burn time off the clock on 4th down.
I didn't really have a problem with what Coach Napier called. He could have punted or he could have had Mertz throw a high, long pass after going to his right but MOST of the time the other team graciously accepts defeat and the game ends. It was impossible to get the 2 possessions they needed in 0:04 . . . but this was UcheaT. This was their Super Bowl+. A LOT of vollies were crushed following all their week-long "blowout" talk. Just knowing they were going to win in The Swamp for the first time in 20-YEARS. In the end, it was UcheaT being UcheaT, IMO. Their coach showed his "character" and our coach showed his. The jokes are good though! LOL!
Even so......I can guarantee you.....the majority of Vols fans were embarrassed that Coach Heupel called that last time out. At the end of the day.....they all knew the game was over and nothing was accomplished by this dumb decision by their coach.
Running it back into our endzone giving them a safety would've been a better choice than punting it. Crayshaw had a terrible game punting and we can't count on our special teams, certainly not with that field position at that time.
If they aren't embarrassed by wearing those checkerboard overalls with one strap hanging loose, Lulu in spandex, and dating their sisters, Heupel's call at the end didn't embarrass them.
It was a cheap shot...Heupal said go and take Mertz out nothing more nothing less...U cheat gonna U cheat...they will always be dirty....and toothless....
