Given that we have been on the short end of the stick many times with bad calls, I'm ok with it being someone else's turn.
I don't remember this. What year was it? We lost to Auburn in 93. I don't think we were up 3 Tds in the 2nd half and Taylor was still in HS. We lost to Auburn in 94 but were not up 3 TDs at any point. Plus Taylor was just a freshman. We lost to Auburn in 01 but Taylor was long gone. And were never up 3 Tds. So refresh my memory on this game.
Show them their pick play and their offensive PI that both resulted in long touchdowns and tell the to shut it.
Yes indeed, the immortal Lulu and Junior. This was during the 2002 game when Rex had a great day in the rain while Clausen melted down like the Wicked Witch of the West. Vols were heavily favored to win that game at Neyland...
Only thing close to this was the Choke at Doak, and we didn't throw multiple INTs. Spurrier had only one first down in the quarter and kept trying to pass, while FSU had no problem moving the ball. Most painful game I ever had to watch in my life...
Scooby got burned by their running back going around the end a couple of times. One was an outlet pass when everybody going out for passes were covered. He is aggressive so he is going to get burned occasionally. He had some great plays also. He has got one of the hardest positions to cover the field. Scooby is starting because he is quick and aggressive, AA wants those types of players! Tennessee’s offense is a tough assignment but the defense did what we needed and stopped a lot of third and fourth downs, something we haven’t done in a while. Scooby is one of my favorites on defense. Add all the first and second string DL to this list, young and going to get better. I thought Tyreek Saap showed he is coming on. Cam and Desmond and Princely say hi! Even Chris McClellan, Will Norman, Jack Pyburn, freshmen Kelby Collins, Kamran James, Caleb Banks and Jabari Lyons, youngsters who are adding great depth to the defense. When Boone went down with an injury, he was wrecking havoc. AA has filled his gap and we are getting better.
So, what about UT? What do they look forward to? Clearly they are not invincible. It's still a bit early. The UT fan base is already giving up on Milton. I suspect they are neither as good as they thought (going into UF) nor as bad as their fan base is portraying them "after" UF. The "other" big topic is they feel the refs screwed them good. I can't argue they had a few go against them but the Refs did not cost them this game. Regarding post game press conferences I would give Josh H an "F". He makes Napier seem like a font of information. Given this is the first time I have watched him after a Vol "loss" I was not particularily impressed how he handled it.
He meant this one. Auburn and FSU were both coached by Bowdens in 93/94- so the teams get mixed up in memories. And actually we were up 4 TDs- 31-3 late 3rd quarter. We did have Fred Taylor but he was a true FR. And right- we didn't throw multiple INTs but we did completely choke because the D kept giving FSU 15-20 yard cushions.
The timeout at the end would have just been a headscratcher. They used it as one last opportunity to take a cheap shot at our quarterback. The coach needs to be suspended the next game when this happens.
Oh the Choke at Doak. Basically, they kept feeding Warrick Dunn on that angle play and then bust one with a wheel route I believe. Our LBs couldn’t keep up with him. Probably needed to assign a nickel or corner to him. Was at that game and the third and 10 before that big play was the loudest the Swamp has ever been IMO.
I would guess the 93 game. The interceptions we’re on the same damn route on the left side of the field deep.
93 we were about to go up multiple scores and suffered a pick 6 At their goaline. Total momentum killer. We were still in position to win but some questionable reffing including a suspect PI that spurrier publicly criticized helped auburn pull it out. The 94 game was supposed to be payback. We couldn't cover the TE or their big WR. Still should have won that game by a couple scores but we chased points with missed 2 point conversion attempts and then had the inexplicable throw into double coverage when we could have ran the clock out with the lead. Only massive leads I recall losing were the choke at Doak and at Miami under Zook.
