WE MADE SOME NOISE LAST NIGHT ! Was great being a part of that. Game experiences like last night are what keeps me and my money coming back. There’s nothing like a night like that in The Swamp. Go Gators
Some people are saying that he was hit before his knee hit the ground. I'll have to check that and see for myself if it's true. If true... that changes everything in that last play. Is that a 15 yard penalty... first down... and 10 second run off?
The play is dead as soon as he gives himself up, not when the knee physically touches the ground. That’s always kind of been implied, but there was actually a rule change a year or two back because of a qb that did a mock slide, then took off when the db held up from hitting him and it wasn’t whistled dead. Now the rule specifically states the play is dead even if the player doesn’t go down, just if he makes a motion like he’s going to. I believe the deadball offsetting penalties would still negate the 10 second runoff, even if the first penalty was live.
Doesn’t matter. The play the rule was rewritten for happened way down field. If a player gives himself up, or makes a motion like he’s going to, the play is dead.
Lol... offsetting after the game was over? I don't doubt the rules... just the way these refs interpretation/application of them.
The game wasn’t over because no penalties had been enforced yet. The play was blown dead with time on the clock. This is a weird thing to get so worked up over. It had no effect on the outcome of the game. The suspensions, if they’re coming, would be coming whether there was a runoff or not.
Who's worked up? I simply feel that the referees owed the game/coaches and the public and answer to how it ended.
The play was blown dead with a few seconds left. Penalty flag thrown for the late hit on Mertz (called targeting). Penalties on both teams for the melee that ensued. Penalties offset. Time still on the clock. Game has to be finished. Tennessee is forced to come back to the field and snap the ball. They did. They took a knee. Game over.
Live ball and QB moved outside the pocket making him a runner. Don’t think it was a late hit but agree game was decided, do playing till whistle was unsportsmanlike
There was no runoff for a few reasons. First, the fact there were offsetting penalties does negate a runoff by itself. But a runoff only happens if the penalty is the only reason the clock was stopped. In this case, the clock stopped already because of the change of possession. So even if only UT was called for a penalty after the play, there would not have been a 10s runoff bc the penalty was not the sole reason for the clock being stopped.
Jordan Castell is already one of my favorite players. This man is going to be a really special player for us.
Saying SOS needed an OC would be like saying God needed a project manager to creative the universe. SOS is still the greatest offensive mind CFB has ever seen.
This is the Kenny Pickett rule for those that don't remember. NCAA memo blows whistle on Pickett's fake slide
So wouldn’t the penalties on the two teams(for the melee ) be the ones that offset? Leaving the hit to the head on Mertz stand alone?
