Pearsall has done great on catching though. Smack and him are the right call for sure.

Smack needs to be the kicker. I think he earned the job last night coming in and stabilizing the special teams.

Mihalek was a walk-on, while Trey Smack was our scholarship kicker. Smack has a very strong leg and had been limited to doing kickoffs the last 2 years because, supposedly, Mihalek was more accurate in practice. But I think Smack will be our FG and point after kicker the rest of the year. At least I think he'll be given every opportunity to be THE guy.

Mihalek was no chump coming out of hs though. He was a top rated kicker even though he came in as a walk on.
    Adam Mihalek's Football Recruiting Profile

I did expect Smack to come in and take the job immediately as, IIRC, he was the top rated kicker in his class. He got some opportunities last year, but has been unable to take the position, until now——possibly.

So we have two highly ranked kickers, but neither of them can consistently do what’s needed of them. It’s unfortunate, but hard to predict and plan for.

Crawshaw was another guy who came in highly touted. When he’s good, he’s good, but he’s also had consistency issues since arriving to Gainesville.

Apparently you were not present when some of my friends and I took our skills to the playground at Franklin Elementary back in '78.

You cannot be a kicker in a P5 school if your PAT kick is less than 9 feet high at the LOS. He has consistently kicked that way. He has been lucky, not good, with his kicking. At best he would be a 30 yard and inside kicker if he could lift his kick. UCF's Florida born kicker made 2 50+ yard kicks last week. The kickers are out there and we need to recruit them.

As noted, both of ours were highly rated. They just haven’t lived up to their billing. The two highly rated ones before these two both worked out great. Pineiro was great here, but a flop in the NFL. Things don’t always work out as you’d hope.

in regards to Crawshaw last night, I think they were mainly trying to not kick to #3. In doing so he shanked two off the side of his foot, but we did not get burned with any long returns.

I had a Korean intern in my company named Dong Haung. He was mystified as to the snickers when his name was called. I finally explained why. He was a good sport about it. “That funny” was his reply.

Dick Trickle- still the best name ever in auto sports. I wanted to name one of my kids Bo Cephas. Wife shot that one down pretty quick.

It could definitely just be the kickers. Nfl teams get new ones all the time.

The best name currently for a kicker is UCF’s Colton Boomer.
