People forget when we took that big lead in Knoxville with Danny W and Stoops as the DC in 96. We went conservative in the second half and ended up winning the game 35-29. They interviewed Stoops afterwards about his sort of prevent defense for the whole second half and he said “we knew what we were doing. They were never going to win that game.” Meyer did it several times in his career as well. So guys like Stoops, Spurrier and Meyer even went conservative on some occasions. This is a non-issue for last night. Like you said the game was really never in doubt after half time. “Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
If I may opine, I was sympathetic about Mus-take's lack of skill coaching as HC at the major college football level. IMO, his place is to be the HC at a Bama-Birmingham kind of place. He would be really good there. But he chose his ego instead and he also opened his trap when he could have been gracious when he was introduced as the DC at Auburn (which was a BAD mistake), like Mike White was when he became UGa's basketball coach. And so, he will always be known to me as Mus-take or little willy. little willy is little willy because...he does not deserve capital letters in his name. But Mus-take is a complete explanation and so I usually use it. But, in its entirety, I am much more annoyed at Dumbo than I am at Mus-take. At least Mac decided, via a weird "message", that he wasn't built for major college ball as a HC. Dumbo is a patently very smart idiot who just can not fathom how much he truly does not know. And he is getting quite wealthy being Dumbo. I never listen to him on the TV. EVER!
Thanks for the information, sounds like he’s going to be OK and thank gosh Wilson sounds like he’s going to be good.
An analyst should be consistent within a three-week span if it's his subject area and the subject itself is his former team. Otherwise you're just changing out whatever makes up your analysis model each week picking winners to suit some other objective (which I think he is sour the Gators had a good game).
You break up with a girlfriend, she says bad stuff about you are surprised? How is this different? His lens - who cares in the least? Just turn the volume down. He's history
One of the best things about last night’s victory is we moved up the broadcast tier so we won’t get Beth Mowins (at least for the time being).
I was good with the conservative 2nd half. i cant argue with the final results. CBN did comment he probably should have been more aggressive in the 2nd half. UT was stacking the box . i think being more aggressive would have entailed a few first down play action passes. our D was great. i think by some of the comments posted people are underestimating our team as i believe UT isnt overrated. i guess we will find out more in the coming weeks
Credit where credit is due, BN was on fire in that first half. The offense was humming because of the balance, we were running with success and we were throwing with success. We ran much more 11 personnel and I will say it until I'm blue in the face, we look so much more efficient with 3 talented WR's on the field. 2nd half we parked the bus as it were, just personal preference that when you got em on the ropes, knock em out. Austin Armstrong is the best coordinator hire since the last time we had a guy with Strong in the last name. Tackling had issues here and there, but the way the D takes angles, sets edges, gap discipline and just straight up being in the right place is lightyears better than we have seen in some time. Think about this, how many times has a big play been because of blown coverage? I can't think of 1, we have guys there, they just got beat, you're going to get beat, it happens. That includes the run game, I'm curious what the longest run against us is on the season, the QB td in week 1 most likely.
Agree totally! And with this being such a young team on both sides of the ball it's seriously encouraging. Then hearing Mertz talk about the lockeroom after the Utah loss proves CBN knows exactly what he's doing!
