I'm not that worried about play calling just because of said injuries. This team is super young, and Mertz is only in his 3rd game with these guys. ETN is a flat STUD, what a huge win that was for CBN. These guys are still learning each other too. But CBN should seriously go after a top flight OC though.
This game should put to rest the notion that Mertz lacks mobility. And unlike Milton, he can throw on the run.
It was a glorious sunrise this morning . BIG win last night, very happy for Billy & Co. The talking head clowns would’ve piled on ruthlessly with their nonsense had they lost. UF played a spectacular first half. More of that for the rest of the season, please.
Some strange takes on this thread. We were in complete control of this game from the second quarter on. If not for the strange placekicking gaffes, it would have been 31-7 at the half. No one would have complained about being conservative with that lead. We had already lost Wilson, who obviously was a focus for this game. They were sending lots of bodies on the rush and we didn’t want Mertz to get killed or make a major mistake. Once they called their second timeout in the third, tactically speaking there was no benefit in being aggressive. More risk than reward. In any event, great game plan on both sides. Mertz was unbelievable with accuracy and decision making in the first. Etienne was dominant all game. Montrell, Wilson, Douglas, Jackson all made big plays. Castell was everywhere. Scooby had his best game. Plenty of DL made plays.
I understand that they score fast and time was their ally, so we needed to run more clock... But I have to admit we should have been more amenable to finding the right time to pop a mid-range pass... Sure handed receivers like Caleb Douglass or Kahleil Jackson on the edges would be the perfect guys to throw to. We need to figure out a 2 minute game and these sidelines should have been used for these plays. Time had to run, but there were also safe passes to be had on the defense.
If you want to help our team out please sprinkle holy water (or water from Lake Alice) on that thing and stick some Voodoo pins in it. We need all the help we can get on special teams.
Hell.yeah. me too. I was fairly close. In the score prediction thread I said 31-13. It ended 29-16. I knew our defense would hold them down on the scoreboard and our RB's would run over them. Go Gators!!!
I thought Trey Smack won the starting field goal and extra point duties last week... apparently not. Maybe now he keeps that job? Someone needs to overrule that Special Teams coach in that regard and demand that Smack get all the kicking duties..
First I would like to apologize to the board for my over the top negativity in the OGT thread last night. I blame it on watching the game sober. I will do better next time. Nevertheless those 5 points we lost in the kicking game must never happen again. My greatest amusement is the number of Vols who believe the ref kick was the most significant point in the game for giving us the game. There is nothing that screams gimmicky offense than the notion that their OL cannot stand man to man with a fresh DL that they have to rely on quick snapping. When you consider we did not have guys writhing from fake injuries every play, you would think they would be satisfied with their opportunities throughout the game. They are going to get wrecked again by Georgia. I would be more worried about them next year if they gave up the experiment with Milton now and turned to the freshman qb.
Bama is on to their third qb in a game and a half. They look bad but they haven’t even started sec play yet and teams can get it together. I’ve never understood staying with a qb that isn’t getting the job done.
Regardless of what vol fans say they were not ready to Snap the ball anyway. They were just as confused on the sideline trying to get a play in. If anything the delay in the snap prob helped them.
