They lost their OC, Golesh, to USF. From what I understand he was quite instrumental with installing and running that 5WR/up tempo offense last year. Joey Halzle is the new OC, with just grunt assistant work. Now they've made him OC, but it appears to be one of those rare transitions that's simply not working. Milton is no Hooker, though my favorite Milton memory is the Ole Miss game where 0:03 is on the clock and it's maybe 3rd and goal. He runs around and finds no receiver, so he merely steps out of bounds with the ball to avoid a sack. GAME OVER. He had "no idea" the game clock ran out.

That's what we are dealing with here. Virginia game there were tons of missed opportunities, and I figured being a 62 point favorite over the perennial powerhouse of Austin Peay; the Vols would unload. Instead it's 13-6 at halftime and loads of lazy Vol defense.

FUN FACT THAT MAY ONLY INTEREST ME: Vol QB Joe Milton currently has the nation's longest completion streak without an INT.

Sounds like something is due, eh?

Hope he is doing well. He listed 3 points. He may not be too off base on one of them!

Didn’t like the article @ETGator. Basically said we wouldn’t play defense like UVA and may give up big plays. Uh…UVA lost the game. Also predicted us to lose 31-21 lol

Not sure why people think the Vols have better talent than us. I think it’s close, but we have the talent edge. What they do have is 3 years in the system to our 2.

That's just Will being Will. His reliance on "proprietary stats" and seeming inflexibility in accounting for outside factors are troubling issues in some of the conclusions he draws. I particularly dislike the knee-jerk negativity that he wears like a red badge of honor on occasion. The "jaded bean-counter getting tangled up in his own intellectual underwear schtick" gets old after a while. Even his podcast partner clearly gets irked with the excessive reliance on "data" to the exclusion of real-world, situational factors. I stopped watching him some time ago because I knew what to expect anyway. You could say that I was not entertained.

Yeah . . . very few professionals, or those trying to build a following, are predicting Florida wins.

I liked the points about UcheaT being over-rated/undependable and Austin Armstrong's tendency to force 3rd-and-long . . . where UcheaT has struggled. If we do that today and control the game with steady running, running, running, passing . . . I think the kids can win. I didn't like his score prediction either though.

Have fun at the game Tommy!

Edit: This is one of the parts I was talking about:

This is an interesting dichotomy coming into this game because Austin Armstrong has almost zero track record of playing a defense like Virginia did two weeks ago. He is ultra-aggressive, blitzing to a point where his Southern Miss defense in 2022 was 114th in explosive (20-plus yard) plays surrendered.

The trade-off was that his defense at Southern Miss got to the QB, something Florida has yet to do. After zero sacks against Utah and only two against McNeese State – juxtaposed with the huge opening play surrendered against Utah – it is fair to wonder whether the trade-off is a good one for this particular Florida defense.

At the same time, Armstrong’s defenses forced Utah into 3-13 and McNeese State into 2-10 on third down attempts. If that trend continues, Tennessee won’t be able to put together any long drives, which means they’ll have to connect on the big plays to score significant points against the Gators.

They are playing a lot of young kids in secondary. Getting experience and will come along slowly.

Mertz has been really solid so far this year. So much for the doom and gloomers.
