You need to do better at an analyst. Based on your predictions, would Tennessee be as well respected? Would South Carolina win the east off of how they finish?
Which young WR's? There have been a lot of plays with just 2 WR's Pearsall and Douglas, both in 2nd year of the system, could throw in TE's Odom and Zanders as well. On top of that why wouldn't you teach the full route tree from the get go to work on it and improve? There are numerous ways to still get players that are not 100% on the full concepts the ball and involved in the passing game regardless.
Just watch the replays. We have one experienced WR in Pearsall. Douglas is a true sophomore and everyone is in their second year of a new system. It’s improving, but if you’re gonna critique the offense, criticize it for being too complex, not for it being too simple IMO.
And yet, Mertz is closer to Trask than any QB we’ve had in recent memory. You think Trask would’ve beaten Utah behind that Oline?
You might be an analyst at heart but you're Fandom for AR is allowing bias into your analysis when you make "analyses " like these. You keep saying max talent in one argument and then bring up his lack of experience when anyone brings up his deficiencies. AR was raw out of highschool. No one argued that. I don't know what his development was like under Mullen in practices but surely he got coaching even when he wasn't playing in games. He might have been potential max talent but it wasn't realized here. To act like the offense last year should have been great while ignoring ARs consistency issues or short/mid range accuracy issues is just as biased and disingenuous as his critics who put all of the blame on his effort level. Brandon shorter made the bills roster. Zipperer is better than who we have playing now. Didn't help vs Kentucky. Pearsall was the same guy he is today, not NFL maybe but a high quality college receiver. Our Oline benefitted from a running qb for certain but you seem to be attributing all of their success on AR while ignoring how important torrence, tarquin and white were. You speak to all of the upgrades we have this year at wr and more experience at RB while ignoring the losses to the line which include unexpected losses to replacements like Goodwin, Mazzcuas injury and Kingsleys absence. You don't even mention it. People don't think Mertz is "balling" but if AR hit the same short throws he does then we sure would have been last year. You say AR gave his all, trust you. What failed him in the Kentucky game then? I have no doubt he wanted to give his all but his head got him and he was not there mentally for the full 60 minutes. Like it or not that's a component of a Qbs game. He more than made up for it against Tennessee on the road no less but it affected our record and performance so why try to put ALL of it on Napier. I agree with so much of what you say and I'm a Napier critic as well as a supporter but your arguments are too hyperbolic some times. Edit to add, my take? Today's game will tell us a lot one way or the other. First two games didn't tell us too much given the questions about the offensive line.
Hmm, that’s a good question . I’d tend to think no but it was night and day mid game when they switched. Maybe?
Under strictly controlled circumstances, depending on the phase of the moon and the angle of the dangle. Unfortunately, those conditions don't always prevail.
I watch Varnadore and GNFP whenever they are available, the passing game is not complex. If you can't get your WR's up to speed in running option routes in the 2nd year of a system, I'm not buying that they exist, it just doesn't hold water for me. If Mertz through 2 games of that same system and he isn't comfortable with it yet, that I would be much more inclined to believe. So, perhaps right reason, different source.
Trask while not super athletic, was actually very good at moving in the pocket to buy that little bit of extra time. You never know, but I think Trask has a decent chance. And to no doubt win the argument I only need 1 word: Delance.
AR's athleticism 100% provided cover for OL inconsistencies while his accuracy issues simultaneously created new ones. I was calling for him to be yanked in the KY game, it was obvious he was out of it for whatever reason. IMO he had a real issue where early setbacks would just snowball on him and he would fall apart.
"Etc?" well, yeah! Percy and RFN were star starters. No one denies this, but the overwhelming majority of starters came from Zook. VERY well documented. Not always in a good way, either. Good thing. You would be virtually the only one who would have thought that. And yet he took the Illini to the Rose Bowl with nowhere near our talent level...
Good win Mostly dominated, even when conservative in second half we’re not beating Georgia or Florida state any time soon but I feel much more confident about 9-3 than 6-6
