But we don't get threads about 15 year olds murdered in our own back yard for being a gang member.

Maybe the stupidest excuse for killing someone I have ever seen. Not even sure what gun laws would stop this. This moron probably would check every legal box... but still be a moron.

Seems probable that the shooter consumes a lot of information that falsely portrays a rapid unraveling of society, when in fact it's mostly his fear and distrust of fellow humans that cause societies to collapse from within.

So much fear. How did our society become so fearful?

There's no one reason, but there is certainly active conditioning against things like solidarity and collective responsibility toward others and towards the primacy of the individual and their own needs and desires. The results are fear, distrust of your fellow man, greed etc. These things serve the needs of a capitalist society, so media, politics, etc often reflect and in turn enable these instincts. They tell you its ok to be afraid because criminals are on the loose and the bad or naive people want to defund the cops, etc. They tell you to buy a gun, because everyone is trying to get you and your stuff. They tell you to use it when you feel afraid, because self-defense is your god-given right and they make the law in a way that enables it. They arent even necessarily wrong, there are people trying to take your stuff and rob you blind but they want you to blame the people that are more or less like you, not the people at the top of society.

In some ways, no laws "stop" people per se since the general deterrent effect of law is symbolic and cannot physically prevent people before hand. But I think attitudes about guns and the law helps drive these types of incidents. Namely, that fear (whether reasonable or not) coupled with a decreasing expectation requiring people make an effort to avoid killing others in such a situation gives people moral if not also a real or perceived legal license (e.g. stand your ground laws) to kill.

Welllll, you cannot discharge a firearm to ‘scare’ people. It’s very likely this guy is going to prison for manslaughter. Sounds more sociopathic and homicidal than anything else.

The shooter is in jail on a charge of 2nd degree murder. He's not even a fearful senior citizen, he's 22 years old.

so as I stated. He’s is homicidal and likely a sociopath just looking for a reason to kill.

One of my worst road rage encounters ever was when I stopped to let a family of ducks cross the street. The guy behind me was relentless, even after he saw the ducks moving to the other side of the street and that traffic stopping.

Hope they can draw blood from the OP's guy to see what was floating around in there.

Gun owners generally are terribly insecure and easily frightened people. Most of them shouldn’t own any weapon. Similarly studies have shown that cops who own guns privately are also the terrified types who shoot black people and dogs (the former likely also attributed to racism)

What is it with gun nuts looking for their big chance to shoot someone?

    From the article.

“Spaeth’s death is another in a growing list of killings by Americans who have shot people in seemingly innocuous situations, from a 9-year-old killed by a neighbor while riding her scooter to a woman fatally shot by a homeowner for pulling into the wrong driveway.”
