Meh, he was thumping bibles when he was dialing up hookers at Ole Miss too. You can believe he’s a different guy if you want.

From what we know from the article, how exactly can you tell what this guy went through? It was bad enough for his parents to reach out to the staff. Maybe the kid is just lazy, but just maybe he has a serious condition that needed to be treated and not mocked. I don't know, but to jump to either conclusion on the information from that article is ridiculous. If the claims are frivolous then it'll get thrown out of court. If they're not, Ole Miss and LK are lucky nothing more serious happened. Based on Kiffen's reported reaction...and if the kid was really having mental problems, then I completely understand why he wouldn't show up for weeks.

As you suggest, we will see. I would be a little more inclined to believe if he hadn’t thrown in racial and gender allegations like spaghetti against the wall to see what would stick.

I love Kiff. I’ve wanted him here several hires ago. And I get that the “bro” frat that is college football is not a place for sensitive folks… but you have to take mental health seriously. And anyone who thinks differently is part of the problem. This is not the gravelly voiced days of Bear Bryant junction boy bs/ like it or not, our world has evolved. It just has. Some isn’t for better - people are too sensitive… and some of it IS for better as people are more sensitive and aware and conscious. That’s not a contradiction- it’s both and there is a fine line. In the 195Os you had a big ol boy barking orders at you and I hear a lot of people “back in my-daying “ and pining for those days but let’s not forget you had rampant domestic violence, racism and misogyny that went hand in hand with a lot of that “you’re too sensitive” bs. So we evolved. We are more tolerant and accepting. And there are far too many ppl on the planet and far too much social media and so there is some de-evolution too. We have school shootings, players taking their own lives and the lives of their teammates and girlfriends - Va, VT and countless other schools have dealt with mental health and addiction gone awry so you HAVE to take it seriously and be more sensitive to an ever evolving and devolving world. Disappointed in Kiffen if this is true. Gotta be more enlightened than that good ol boy stuff. That world is dead and gone and you either change with it or die off like Gruden and others

Well said. If this same player had gone to the staff and said he had a problem with Heroine, do they call him weak and tell him to enjoy his rehab vacation? People like to blame mental health for shootings and such but when someone says they have a problem and need help they get ridiculed by the person that is supposed to be a mentor in their life? I've seen many champion Napier's approach to building excellent young men, think about that dynamic in this particular situation, and how disappointing it would be if our coach handled it the same way.

As far as suing, well, if you even have 1% chance to get a payday, many are going to go for it.

Did this kid go to his coach and ask for help or did he start skipping classes, practices, meetings, and one on ones with the coach trying to figure out what’s going on? Did he start breaking all of his commitments or did he ask for help first?

Based on what I read, assuming it is accurate (have to in order to even discuss it really), he sought help and was referred to it via the training staff. It seems highly likely that would have been communicated to LK, if not that is a serious failing internally. Given that context, your example is quite off as the boss knew why he was AWOL. Speaking personally, if I were to just AFK for weeks after my boss were made aware of seeking help for a mental health crisis they would be much more worried about my well being than my lack of attendance. Most likely would retroactively count the time as short term disability and would almost certainly encourage and even possibly pay for continued counseling. If you think I have it good, you should ask yourself why you don't have the same.

I was going of what Bazza posted from SDS, unless I'm misunderstanding, it seems that SOMEONE in the staff was aware.

The Kiffin AH factor is the key. There is something going around about a phone call recording that may be quite problematic on a PR level. TBH, I'm evolving on this whole situation a bit. A few of the more "humane" observations here have informed my thinking and caused me to re-assess to a degree. One way or another, it's a huge mess no matter how you slice it. I'm glad we don't have to worry about BN pulling a stunt like this. GG! Beat UT!

Mine said something like, "Life's a bitch, and then you sue someone for it. If you die, I will be happy to file on your behalf."

    Nope.

He wrapped himself in the Bible while at Ole Miss too. When confronted by his obvious misdeeds, he lied. He might be authentic, but I'm skeptical. History is full of charismatic evangelical adulterer-charlatans -- see the president of his previous employer.

That said, based on your statement, I'll consider the possibility. I'll see if I can find something online showing he confessed and repented.

I suspect you are basing this off of a few sentences from the OP.

With Jalen Kitna, we all rushed to judgement -- Stone Him! -- based on limited information. When a fuller story came out, the narrative became -- possibly correctly -- "he got railroaded."

It's quite possible the young man is soft. Or: there's a LOT more going on. And, it's possible Kiffin reacted in a way that doesn't fit an employee of an academic institution.

If he was Percy Harvin or Aaron Hernandez, and he did everything you described, would he have received the same response from Kiffin?

I coach high school sports. Most coaches kiss the ass of the top third and shit on the bottom third. And that's considered a-ok in our culture.
