Well, I doubt that is precisely what Lane Kiffin said, but that was probably the sense of it. I looked at some other articles, and it seems this athlete was underperforming and had been demoted to the scout team. That was the source of the “mental health crisis.” He is also claiming racial and sexual discrimination because white and female athletes are treated differently. No idea about the racial angle, but this player is going to have a difficult time proving that Kiffin allowed his female athletes to take mental health vacations from practice and meetings. Without knowing any more details, it looks Kiffin was trying to cut some scholarship dead weight in the manner he probably learned under Saban.

I think there’s a recording of that conversation that was referenced. I have no problems with cutting dead weight, but this is not a good look for Lane.

They will settle I’m sure. Just would be hard to recruit if that tape ever gets played with him saying “idgaf about your mom.”

“When the head coach asks to meet with you and you don’t show up for weeks, we can kick you off the team.”

Actually, I have no problem with that. It doesn’t matter what kind of crisis the kid felt from getting demoted. When the head coach calls you to his office, you don’t get to decide that you’ll go in a couple of weeks.

I'd think that unless your mental health crisis results in some type of hospitalization you'd still be responsible for showing up to things, or properly informing people why you aren't showing up.

Kiffen should probably act professional about it but nothing wrong with kicking a no show off the team.

Hopefully the settlement involves the athlete repaying the school for room, board and tuition during the times he was purposefully not participating in the activities his scholarship is for.

Kiffin arrives, unseemly melodrama ensues. See every job he's ever held. No wonder F'baum wants to see him in Gainesville. In terms or turgid, gut-wrenching chaos, that would be a gift to the media that would keep on giving - to the bitter, catastrophic end. I'm a hard pass on LK. Ever. When people show you who they are, believe them the first time. FTR, in LK's case, it's more like the fourth or fifth time.

Usually, I would agree. Under these circumstances, though, would anyone expect Saban to act differently? Would his words be less harsh? Would an Alabama court ever allow this transcript to see the light of day?

I wish Kiffy did it on a zoom call and it was recorded.but kiff hasn’t been accused of being stupid yet just an asshole with really bad judgement.

Sabans maybe a dick but I doubt he would create this type of situation. Saban is usually way out in front of everything and chooses his words and actions carefully. I’ve jokingly said I look forward to seeing him have an aneurism on the sideline but he is a great ceo and doesn’t stumble along into his next snafu.

Football is getting to the point where coaches have to beware of metal health issues, and so far, from what I read, Kiffin failed to handle that situation with care for his player's well being.

I don't know more than the hearsay, but I doubt he should be fired for being a total douche. It's a good thing Kiffin didn't force him to play, that would be a whole other world of problems for Ole Miss and Kiffin.

He (the player in question) should be offered a complete medical hardship with college paid for, as it he were on full football scholarship.

Thank the ole mighty one that the Gators handle their business with a certain sensibility to the player's needs.

Look for Kiffin to settle this ASAP... out of court.

I totally agree about Saban being a harsh task master and an outspoken critic of anyone who gets in his way. He is not a "nice guy" by any definition. But Kiffin has brought new meaning to the old slang term "scumbag," and it hurts my heart to think that a person of his caliber might someday become our HC. I just think we deserve better than that.

I'm not sure the correct standard of review is what a completely compromised Alabama system (or LegHumper system) would or would not allow to see the light of day. As usual, I'd suggest withholding judgment until more facts are available . . . but it's no longer a "race to the courthouse." Now it's a "race to social media" to see who can present their slant first and loudest on Twitter and FB.

Assuming the worst-case situation for CBN — which let’s define, for the sake of argument, as being fired midseason next year — I have a feeling that Kiffin will have already parlayed his current job into something better by then, and he will be in his first season somewhere else. I don’t think the timing will work out for Kiffin to be our head coach anytime soon, if ever.

Again, I don't disagree. But people aren't talking about Saban possibly coming to UF for good reason. It ain't gonna happen, ever. Hopefully, LK and DS will never happen to UF either.

He probably lost his emotional support squirrel and he wasn't up for a meeting. Hey, things happen. Poor soul...

And just as important, the NIL nonsense cuts both ways. In the "old days" you just had to meet the minimum standards and you got a full ride scholarship. Nowadays, you are a commodity, and if you don't meet the new standard, and someone else does, you are gone. There is NO WAY there is a viable lawsuit, douchey behavior or not.
