Settling for classes ranked in the mid teens was one of the key reasons that Mullen is longer with us, despite showing — with the glaring exception of 2021 — some real coaching success in the field relative to the previous two guys. I’ll go back to my original point, which was to counter the argument that Napier had proven he can recruit. Not yet, he hasn’t. His signed classes have not been remarkably better than Mullen’s. Now if he can hold the current class together, that would go a long way toward proving his recruiting prowess. But he has not done that … yet.
I don't understand why saying BN hasn't proven something yet is controversial, but then pointing to recruiting classes that have yet to beat anyone with a pulse as proof of his quality is applauded. Does the talent he has brought in show a ton of potential, absolutely. I've argued vehemently with those that said Mullen woulda won 10 games last year when many of the biggest contributors were BN's guys. Potential is great and it gives hope, myself included, but that potential has to be realized.
Objectively speaking, the correlation between top recruiting classes and on-field success is overwhelmingly in favor of those recruiting rankings having merit. If they didn't you wouldn't see numerous posters pointing to the current ranking of this years class as a reason to believe in BN. Neither "experts" Siskel or Ebert ever made a movie to my knowledge, yet millions heeded their opinion when it came to the quality of movies.
Roger Ebert co-wrote a handful of movies with Russ Meyer, notably "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls." Nothing to brag about, but he did it with a grin. I'd certainly go with S&E as "experts" in any case. (Some top European filmmakers were film critics, but it's pretty rare in the U.S.) Back to football ...
Winning next year is the key. Everything is laying the groundwork for that so for this game the key is to continue to see D improvements and hopefully a more modern passing game. If we do that and we lose…that’s ok. Improvement is what we need
We have elite potential. The bottom feeders don't. We aren't a bottom feeder program. It's the opposite actually. Billy's tenure has got off to a slow start mainly because his offensive scheme is poor and he is not a good OC. Also he whiffed on a qb in the first 2 classes and the OL coaches haven't recruited that well. I think he also should have used the portal more like fsu. This is the drawback of a young coach. He is still learning.
We need to recruit better to compete with UGA…but talent wise we’ve been better or on par with the rest of our schedule. Utah was less talented than Florida..especially post injuries Florida on paper is more talented than UT although it’s close So based on recruiting rankings we should be better. What the poster was implying is if we are underperforming our recruiting rankings now then it’s logical to ask if we continue to underperform them
It just takes cash to keep this class together. As long as the guys paying the salaries are behind our coach, he will recruit just fine. It would seem the ones doing all the crying at this point aren’t signing the checks.
I won’t be subjected to that. That’s one good thing about never attending any of our lesser games, I’ve never seen us lose to a bad team in person.
I’m about to jump in the car and the odds are against us, literally. I’ll be pissed if we don’t win no doubt but I don’t “ expect” to win. I expect to see improvement in our players and coaches. If we win, it will be a great weekend in Gainesville. I can’t wait for the opportunity to watch our Gators blow the roof off the Swamp.. it wasn’t that long ago we beat Auburn and LSU is great fashion in the Swamp and I’m hoping for the same tomorro.
This past class was full of highly ranked players though and we had to fill gaping holes to put a team on the field through the portal.. the numbers are a little misrepresented.
This past class was much better than anything Mullen ever did. Inststead if looking at a simple number on paper, actually look at the players on the team. Where is Mullen’s talent. I think you will look back in a couple years and see a roster with good players ftom this past class leading a good team. Mullen was lucky to have 5-10 guys left a couple years later.
Everybody’s learning as the transfer portal and NIL landscape is new to everyone. You think Dabo or Jimbo are considered young coaches?
BFD. Siskel and Ebert could be wrong too. Even Will Miles has changed his tune on the subject. The bottom line is that the assertion that BN has achieved nothing at all on the recruiting trail is total poppycock. You and others toss around some vague/opinion-based "figures" and hasty, narrative-pumping, anti-BN conclusions, while ignoring the fact that we now boast some actual SEC caliber players, albeit young, with more in the pipeline. Progress is being made regardless of who does or does not want to admit it. SMH.
Sometimes it happens unfortunately...but I have had season tickets for about 38 years and I support my team thru thick and thin...you know " in all kinds of weather "
