I am pretty sure azcat was referring to the highest hospitalization rate, not count of hospitalizations. Florida fared pretty close to NY, but overall did the worst of the four big states. and compared to California, had over 1,080 more deaths and 45k more cases per 100k.

That is significantly worse than Cali.

Not worse enough to shut down an economy and destroy your state over. Florida is flourishing with thousands of people moving here weekly. California on the other hand is losing thousands weekly and is a state largely in shambles with uncontrolled homelessness, uncontrolled immigration and significant amounts of non-violent and violent crime.

Thank you making my point. While it might sound cold from a medical perspective, 1,080 less deaths isn't worth literally shutting down your entire state for two years like Cali did. If Florida had say 20,000 or 25,000 more deaths than Cali than you would have a point. Florida largely stayed open while Cali essentially imprisoned their population and treated them like North Korea treats it's citizens for two years. From an economic perspective the 1,080 additional deaths aren't significant and not nearly enough to destroy your economy over.

Can't fix stupid. The charlatan won't ever quit even when it's been shown he's been wrong for 3 years now on pretty much everything covid related. It's why people just laugh at what he posts. If that poster would just admit he was wrong maybe I'd move on. Until then...

We've been on this carousel before. I bring facts like this study showing the efficacy of school closures. Or this, with the UK calling the decision not to lock down the greatest public health failure in the history of the country. You respond with more juvenile name calling. My guess is that's the only thing you can do to keep in the conversation, because you can't argue the facts. Here's some unsolicited advice if you are going to keep up with the juvenile name calling. Look up the words "Charlatan" and "Grifter", and consider using the thesaurus function...might expand your limited name-calling vocabulary!

Bottom line, I'm through arguing with you. You bring absolutely nothing to the discussion, unless people enjoy reading childish insults. I don't. I'm still waiting for an explanation how inflated COVID hospitalization rates changes the fact Florida is leading the country in COVID hospitalizations? Is this inflation only happen in Florida? Is there anything saying it's more pronounced in Florida? Or, is there nothing and I'm just a charlatan because......?

I'll continue to monitor this thread, and post corrected information when I see obvious misinformation. Like the claim the COVID vaccine wasn't properly tested. It was. Other than that, if the only debate I'm getting is being called named, it's not worth my time. I outgrew name-calling a long time ago.

Charlatan's gonna charlatan. You won't admit you were wrong on lockdowns, school closures, masks, NI and vaxxing healthy kids. I'm happy you won't reply because you could only post BS studies and are too ignorant to admit you were wrong.

That's 1,084 fewer deaths per 1 million population. If CA had the same rates as FL, there would have been over 42k additional deaths and over 1.7m additional cases. Even if we used age-adj death rates, at FL's rate, CA still would have had 10s of thousands more deaths.

*In my earlier comment I used 100k rate, but it was 1,084 per 1 million.

CA did not "essentially" imprison anyone. But temporary restrictions saved lives and didn't "destroy the economy." Florida otoh was like let em die on the hill of utter stupidity & conspiracy to prove rw bona fides. How peachy.

Yup, CA has a homeless problem like no other state. Don't argue it (fwiw FL is #3). Same time, CA has a much higher per capita GDP and median household wealth, and lower poverty rates. Though, as with the US in general, the perverted distribution of wealth among other factors is what helps drive quite a few problems.

    Crime?

If CA has significant property and violent crime rates, guess what other state does as well?

The CDC vaccination tracker is not a measure of what pediatricians advised.

You can't honestly claim that Offit "fell for the fear." The guy was a key FDA adviser on covid vaccines and a highly regarded expert on vaccinations. If anything, based on your general view of things, you'd have been arguing several years ago that Offit was a fear-mongerer and you'd have called him evil where now you're calling him "great"...but for equally flawed reasons.

Offit argued that young/healthy don't need boosters now. Key word is now, which is to say in a new context, healthy/young people don't need to take the new vaccines or additional vaccines because prior vaccinations coupled with good health should protect them against severe effects. It continues to escape you that he is not against vaccinations of children or for healthy people as you are (again, he urged parents to get their children vaccinated and he was vaccinated three times).

He absolutely fell for the fear. And fell for the bs studies peddled by the idiots in public health. He was 100% wrong to advise kids to ever take one of these shots imo. And many other doctors held the position I did. But he certainly sees things much more clearly now. Medicine is never a we all agree.

It did not take long for Offit to realize his young healthy kids did not need anymore Covid shots.

Without looking at the actual populations themselves this data is useless. What are the statistics regarding the average age and chronic health conditions in Florida vs California?

Florida's average citizen is 6 years older and Florida has a 5% higher obesity rate. That would explain your noted differences above. I see you posted that you adjusted for age, how did you go about doing this?

Being homeless, last I checked, isn't a risk factor. In fact homeless people skew younger and aren't typically fat.

The vast majority of COVID deaths are at or above life expectancy, which conveniently is the age at which life itself is expected to kill you.

Edit to add- it looks like if you dig into more specific population age statistics that Florida has a +6.2% higher percentage of over 65 persons but only a -2.8% lower percentage of under 18 population, so even using the average age will be a less than equal comparison, since Florida has way more elderly, a few less minors and more older middle aged people so it's not a straight comparison.

Adjusting for age accounts for population differences and it's calculated against a standard population distribution. I don't disagree with considering other factors but even if, say, obesity were factored in, and FL was closer to CA in death rates, that still wouldn't bode well for claims about FL's alleged superiority in handling covid. The evidence does not support such claims.

I didn't bring homelessness (or crime etc.) into the discussion. In any case, it wasn't about covid, it was a response to coastal who claimed that CA is in shambles in which he cited homelessness and crime etc. as evidence. It's not true, but that wasn't a matter I felt like going too deeply into.

Remember the ‘Covid success story’ that was Taiwan ? The highly vaccinated country has been hammered with excess mortality for five quarters in a row. Recall that Taiwan is the country that forcibly quarantined ‘positives’ in hotels and imposed a steep fine on one man who ventured into the hallway for eight seconds …
