Plenty of people who took the vaccines clogged up emergency rooms and hospitals.. as you well know. Did the vaccine likely save some lives? Did likely make others sick? Yes.
People absolutely were “forced” to take the vaccine or give up their jobs. Others were forced to give up their worship services. All while bars were deemed essential.
CoVid changed everyone and everything. Hindsight is always 20/20. What we didn’t know at the time is what we didn’t know. But we.. our government reacted out of fear.. out of panic… instead of leading with strength and honesty.

Not a lot of panic from the top…

Feb. 10: “Now, the virus that we’re talking about having to do — you know, a lot of people think that goes away in April with the heat — as the heat comes in. Typically, that will go away in April. We’re in great shape though. We have 12 cases — 11 cases, and many of them are in good shape now.” — Trump at the White House. (See our item “Will the New Coronavirus ‘Go Away’ in April?“)

Feb. 26: “And again, when you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that’s a pretty good job we’ve done.” — Trump at a press conference.

Feb. 26: “I think every aspect of our society should be prepared. I don’t think it’s going to come to that, especially with the fact that we’re going down, not up. We’re going very substantially down, not up.” — Trump at a press conference, when asked if “U.S. schools should be preparing for a coronavirus spreading.”

Feb. 27: “It’s going to disappear. One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear.” — Trump at a White House meeting with African American leaders.

March 4: “[W]e have a very small number of people in this country [infected]. We have a big country. The biggest impact we had was when we took the 40-plus people [from a cruise ship]. … We brought them back. We immediately quarantined them. But you add that to the numbers. But if you don’t add that to the numbers, we’re talking about very small numbers in the United States.” — Trump at a White House meeting with airline CEOs.

March 4: “Well, I think the 3.4% is really a false number.” — Trump in an interview on Fox News, referring to the percentage of diagnosed COVID-19 patients worldwide who had died, as reported by the World Health Organization. (See our item “Trump and the Coronavirus Death Rate.”)

March 7: “No, I’m not concerned at all. No, we’ve done a great job with it.” — Trump, when asked by reporters if he was concerned about the arrival of the coronavirus in the Washington, D.C., area.

March 9: “So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on. At this moment there are 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!” — Trump in a tweet.

maybe a little panic early one might have saved on say several hundred K deaths?
Maybe we would not have to hear ideas like mainlining bleach and sticking sunshine up our ass etc.

Nobody was forced to take a vaccine. Except millions who wanted to keep their jobs. Or in the case of Canada, people near death who were needing organ transplants.

Bleach would have arguably killed far fewer than ventilators, various anti-virals and vaccines. Also, fact-checked true: Trump was undoubtedly right when he said stop testing and so-called Covid would go away, insofar as the so-called pandemic was only sustained by a test calibrated to detect segments of a mental construct.

They'll probably bring these back and start doing drive-by's if all else fails.

I’m not sure I can trust their objectivity.
Not sure I’ve uttered a larger understatement in my life.

@thecoastalman says “My body, my choice”.
    So, you’re anti-vax. And you’re pro-choice.
At least you’re half-right. *Pun intended*

Comparatively, no. Vaccines reduced your odds of being in the hospital between 80-90% for much of the pandemic.

. You act as if saving hundreds of thousands of lives with the vaccines is comparable to maybe 10,000-15,000 who got mostly temporary and mild cardiac side effects.

Why do you think you have the right to go to work or anywhere else and infect somebody with Covid because you don’t want to be vaxed? Do you get how selfish that is and how trivial of a sacrifice that getting a stupid shot is? And why do you think hospitals and health care workers had to work around the clock because a large chunk of knuckle draggers refused to get vaxed and clogged up ER’s and intensive cares?

Even a conservative poster here who worked in health care admitted during the delta phase that most, almost all of the critically ill people were unvaccinated.

You right that hindsight is 20/20. You are correct there was a lot we didn’t know. People had to make their best judgment and make recommendations based upon that. I am not sure how you define “strength” because anything the government did to try to stave off the virus was opposed by people such as yourself. As to honesty, just because some things were gotten wrong doesn’t mean that’s dishonesty.

It’s as if some of you completely forgot about that time frame, and have come up with this ridiculous theory after the fact that if we just didn’t do anything, no shut downs, no social distancing, no masking, no vaccines, that everything would have been fine. I mean, how stupid can people be.

Earlier this year when China opened up from quarantine to wide open, it is estimated about 2 million people died in the course of two months - and this was during Omicron. Imagine how much worse it would have been if we did nothing. Don’t you remember how awful NY was for the first couple of months?

Just to let you know the 72 year old vaccine favorite Dr. Paul Offit will not be taking the booster. He is surely as vaxxed as you are. I would highly consider his position along with your caring sister.

But if you want to be part of the 7% (my guess considering the last booster got 15% and maybe should be 5%). Your choice. Doctors are not taking these things anymore. Don’t kid yourself.

This lie needs to stop. It did not provide any sort of protection to a young healthy person.

The fact a fellow Gator finds this funny is sick. Glad you were able to stand strong against the idiots in public health!

Such a stupid analogy. Killing an innocent life separate from the mother is not the same thing as ignoring basic medicine and science to coerce people into taking an unnecessary drug.

Dr. Offit thinks everyone over 65 should take the booster. If Offit is going to stay off it himself, that's his choice, though it's an odd one if he thinks everyone else his age should take it. Maybe the good doctor hasn't heard the old adage to practice what you preach.

Do I want to be part of the 7% of what? Is that the percentage of the population bumped off by the shots? I'll still take my chances.

Well, she raises chickens and has offered me some free eggs. I might better check them to be sure they haven't been cracked open and then resealed.
