I talked about how many times we got caught in a bunch formation and how it makes it easier on the defense... This top video in the beginning illustrates perfectly why we need to spread the offensive formation out as wide as we can... Now people here understand what I was talking about... the opposite of bunched up. And it works in a run or passing down.
I can only hope Napier was holding things back because that O film was not inspiring. I think James would put a ring on it when it comes to Coach Ham.
Mertz "made almost all the right decisions on every throw in this game." James said that's what he saw in the offseason film review from Wisconsin. James' complaint is more what the scheme is giving him, not the QB.
100. Let's hope against hope that there's more to the playbook. At least coach Ham looks like a winner. Let's pay the man and bring in an OC that can create an effective passing game next year.
That's such a great idea that I'm shocked that one of us actually thought of it. I hope Billy does too, soon.
I agree. Although I am a fan of the spread offense, I do not see any signs in his playbook that Napier will use a spread offense, even if he hires a dedicated OC next year. He is a big fan of downfield blocking, which is interesting because he is recruiting smaller receivers better suited to a spread than his predecessors who recruited larger receivers better suited to blocking. That being said, on occasion he does spread the formation out, and it seems to work. He needs to figure out what offensive identity he wants now that he has access to a more diverse variety of recruits at Florida than he did at Louisiana. He probably has a good mix of athletes to use more spread formations in 2023, but it would not be a "true spread" without bringing in a dedicated OC--it would be good enough to make it harder for opposing defenses to bottle up this offense and it would make opponents have to plan for both styles of formations.
Napier likes crowded for his blocking schemes. I thought both were pretty honest reviews. We had a lot of run plays that were dead in the water except for a superior athlete. Pass, welp, we are saving the the plays for a big opponent? Mertz better have his scrambling shoes on. Despite our run yardage, I was surprised our OL couldn’t man handle their line road grader style. Hoping getting C back will help. A few miscues on D. Young LB need to stay out of the scrum when scraping across and definitely some coverage issues that will get exploited. Still light years better. Seeing players attacking vs chasing, who would have thunk it. Ymmv Go Gators
Smith is bigger and fast... Lol. I hope he flips from OSU to the good guys. The bigger faster receivers are nice to have and Mullen knew how to use them. But our best years in football, under Meyer, we had a nice mixture of big/fast and small/fast players on our team. That seems to be the ticket to success.
