Spike in Poverty in U.S. Sparks Calls for More Direct Payments (newsweek.com)

The Bureau said the supplemental poverty measure, or SPM, jumped to more than 12 percent. This measure is different from the official poverty rate, which stood at 11.5 percent, which comes to nearly 38 million people. That measure showed no statistical difference from the 2021 levels.

This rate of measuring poverty, however, excludes government assistance for low-earning families. The SPM rate takes into account how housing expenses vary depending on where you live in America and incorporates taxes and work and medical expenses when measuring poverty levels.

"This increase was largely due to the expiration of the pandemic-era tax policy expansion and stimulus payment in 2022," added Liana Fox, assistant division chief, Economic Characteristics, Social, Economic, and Housing Statistics Division.

The end of stimulus programs wasn't the only thing that hurt Americans in 2022. Inflation hit 8 percent in 2022, almost double from the previous year, hurting earnings.

Like we didn't see this coming, it will only get worse

Poverty fell to a record low due to tax credits for poor now they are back to same levels as under Trump. Are you supporting tax credits for poor?

    Back to Trump pre-pandemic levels.

The quotes in the article are amazing. It's the congressional Republicans fault that children are raised in poverty, not the fault of the people having kids. Next time I have to clean up a mess my toddler makes I'll be sure to place the blame where it really belongs, congressional Republicans. If they only gave me money to pay for a maid I wouldn't have to raise my children in a home with this situation.

Are you for sterilization of the poor or should we just shoot them?

Neither but personally I just didn't have kids until I was prepared. I'm a member of raw dog only crew, pull and pray works miracles. It's not hard.

I also didn't run through a bunch of hood rats, a bit of vetting is necessary.

Are you of the belief that poor people are to dumb to know how reproduction works or too dumb to use contraceptives? See, two can play the baited questions game.

I'd be willing to bet someone of such intellect can figure it out.
