The Barbie movie is going to pale in comparison to the Taylor Swift tour documentary that hits theaters in October.

probably need a thread on TS. Economic impact to cites is on Super Bowl level. Biggest musical performer since MJ?

MJ is the comparison I recently thought of, too.

It's incredible. I was recently in a group where the mom surprised her teen daughter with tickets for a show in 2024, and the girl broke down crying. Of course, many adults love her too, so I don't doubt her talent or her ability to connect with people. The raw intensity of the fandom is a bit of an enigma to me, though I've never felt that strongly about an artist or celebrity.

I always enjoy hearing or reading of kids going into chemical engineering. I graduated UF with a BSCHE.

I seem to recall that when I was at UF ChE required the most number of credit hours to graduate of any major. I wonder if that’s still the case?

Not sure if it's the most, looks like 131 hours.

No idea, but I know her classes are challenging because I can’t understand a word in her courses.

At the box office, probably. As a creative endeavor, not even close. It’s a consolation prize for her fans who didn’t get tickets or lived too far away from the cities where she performed. The concerts themselves were brilliant, as is her recent discography but a concert movie is a concert movie unless it was shot by someone like UF alum, Jonathan Demme, Martin Scorcese or Jim Jarmusch. The good news is that it could push this year’s total box office numbers up to early 2010s level.

Who were you embarrassed for? Why did you even go since you knew you weren't going to like it? What do you think is a good movie?

My daughters wanted me to see it.
They thought the Ken songs and dancing was funny. They were right.
But the movie itself was terrible.

Ken was the most cringe part of the whole movie.

I can see all three of them being passed up.

Yes, it was a block buster, and all, but was it the best "directed movie"? Eh... maybe.

Best Actress... come on, she is hot, and it was pretty good. But pretty good isn't "best actress" material either.
