It’s cult-like. this father threatened his children with….. “Days after the attack on the Capitol, Guy had returned home and warned Peyton and Jackson: “If you turn me in, you’re a traitor and you know what happens to traitors,” “Peyton wrote a letter to the judge asking for leniency and saying the former president had led her father astray. When Trump spoke, she wrote, her father “fell to his knees.” “Peyton hadn’t planned to speak to the news media, but then she impulsively began. “Trump deserves life in prison if my father is in prison for this long,” she said of the former president, who has since been indicted four times, including on charges related to Jan. 6”
Imo you don’t turn in a parent. But kid was 20 and screaming arguments with his father over maga. A key point is he turned him in before it happened. He thought his father was going to the capital to do great harm. His father had guns including AR15.
You show absolutely no even-handednes and offer no intelligent contribution, just ignorant comments like the above. You belong where I should have placed you a long time ago. Goodbye.
They turned in parents in Nazi Germany. Course they thought they were doing the right thing, after all the newspapers told them it was the right thing to do! Sow to the wind, reap the whirlwind! I'm out! Seems all my old buddies on Too Hot have left to seek some sanity!!
When the State controls the kids the parents are an afterthought. Children in North Korea and China are rewarded for informing on others - including family members. If you don't toe the party line - you are deplorable. Sounds vaguely familiar.
A detailed account of what he did on 1/6. It’s nuts how many blindly follow inmate P01135809. This father ruined his life, now in prison and his family is a mess because of his misguided maga cult-like thinking. “I’m taking the Capitol with everyone else. … I think we have the numbers to make it happen,” Reffitt said in an allegedly self-recorded video at the Jan. 6 rally led by President Donald Trump at the Ellipse. Referring to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), the defendant said in several expletive-laden variations that the group would drag lawmakers “out kicking and screaming” and that he wanted to see her head hit every stair on the way down. Three Percenter who accompanied Reffitt to the Capitol. He testified that they both brought firearms and ammunition to the Capitol and to D.C., and were ready to use them in self-defense, agreeing that “it’s better to be tried by a jury of 12 than carried by six” pallbearers. He said they left a pair of AR-15s in the garage of their D.C. hotel. Hardie also testified that Reffitt gave him zip ties and told him they were “in case we need to detain anybody.” Capitol Police Inspector Monique Moore, who helmed the force’s command center that day, broke down as she recalled hearing officers “screaming for help.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/03/08/guy-reffitt-trial-verdict/
You obviously haven't learned your PragerU history. Slavery was literally compelled upon the nation by some never named force. All of the Founding Fathers thought it was wrong and hated it. But apparently they were powerless. They were even compelled to own and rape their own slaves. It was just completely out of their hands.
Never turn in a parent? I’d say with daddy threatening to kill the family, that’s probably an appropriate time to turn his sorry ass in. But I guess the threats actually happened after the incident and after he returned from 1/6? Made sense for the kid to try to stop his dad from going in the first place. Also makes sense to report if he feels the dad could commit violence or is exhibiting mental illness. That is exactly the type of “warning signs” that get missed in so many mass shootings. Not wanting to turn in family or not believing they will do it is exactly how that happens. I heard of the story of this family before, probably at least a year ago (or more) before the legal process played out. Kind of crazy this dude threatened to kill his own children and several posters on here compare the children to the brainwashed Hitler Youth. Holy shit. Tell me you are in a cult without telling me you’re in a cult.
Again, unless the guy is deemed mentally incompetent, as in fully not in charge of his faculties, he is 100% responsible for his actions. However, we can also recognize that he’s probably of relatively low intellect and also was effectively brainwashed. Even if that cannot meet a legal standard of mental incompetence, it is possible for these things to be true AND for him to still be 100% responsible for his actions in the legal sense. Should this factor into a persons guilt or innocence? Sentencing? Hell no. Does the family have any recourse against Trump or anyone else? Probably not. Sadly it sounds like the parents are still in the cult anyway.
yep, good point. Especially as he reported his father before 1/6 & Fbi followed up after 1/6. Fbi might have been better prepared if they listened. Agree, it’s absurd to compare this kid to nazis. then the counter is this kid not reporting it could be like relatives who don’t speak up before a family member commits mass murder.
No problem with the kid turning his dad in once the dad started making threats to his own family. I do have questions about the kids gofundme and his motivations especially if his goal increased over time from $100,000 to now $200,000 over time. Seems like the kid has tasted a little bit of the spotlight and ease to make a little money the easy way. But I empathize with him somewhat. I've seen some of the brainwashing of family and friends over Trump first hand and it's disruptive and depressing.
There were plenty of other rioters turned in by ex-wives and co-workers. That’s how a fair few were identified. I could see “don’t snitch on family” applying if the guy was just present or didn’t really do anything. It would be pretty weak to turn in a close family member who was just wanted on trespassing. But once the threats start flowing, sorry pops time to get help. Sounded like this guy truly need(s) mental help. I don’t like to see people rewarded with GoFundMe. That does come off as a bit scammy. But then again, kid probably needs money after his family got suddenly wrecked by the parents lunacy. If he didn’t have savings it gets him a head start to start his own life. Hopefully he’s sharing that bounty with his sister at least.
Yeah I should have qualified that the threats to family were not the only reason I could justify or support turning in family. Just being there alone wouldn't be something I would support someone for turning in immediate family but there are certainly a few other actions that would justify it especially if the parent or family member continued their path of fanaticism and potential for violence. Are they even the same people you once knew at that point? The gofundme thing could be ok i guess but increasing it from 100 to 200k is suspicious and in at least one article he claims the family hasn't accepted his "help" as of yet. He got an apartment and paid for some school but also got dental work done. People have the right to give their money to whatever causes they choose but that wouldn't be in my top 1000.
I agree. Even $100k seems a bit excessive, not totally crazy if actually going to college with it, but more than most kids get and perhaps more resources than his family would have had for his education. He should have been more than grateful for that support. If what you say is true about upping the ante, begging for $200k is only going to come off as greedy and pathetic. There are just so many better causes. At least “earn it” by writing a book or something. This is why I don’t much like GoFundMe and would never consider donating no matter how good a sob-story. As you say people can choose where to donate their money, but many are just outright scams, or in cases like this semi-legitimate causes that morph into grifts.
