Has to be one of your dumbest posts. I can’t say it’s your dumbest but it’s up there. Guess I’ll stick to Kelsey Grammer gifs from here on out to satisfy your guidelines. Ooof.
Probably already been stated somewhere downthread, but this discussion is moot until the GOP finds a nice legal (never mind ethical or moral; I’m uncharacteristically flexible on this issue) way of keeping Trump’s stupid, toxic [rear end] off the ticket.
My dream scenario is that trump runs as an independent and a bunch of maga idiots leave the Republican Party to run third party. Leaving the government in sane hands.
And the GOP should tell him to go ahead and do that. Better to lose Perot-style than be associated with that man.
Don’t blame you. I’d like to see RFK jr split the liberal vote in the general election for much the same reason … unless it somehow helped Trump win the election. But in all seriousness our system should have runoffs in all states where there is no candidate with a majority. Third (or fourth) parties can’t realistically win an election, but they can be a spoiler for the candidate who otherwise would have won the election. It has happened a couple of times in our history and has adversely affected both parties.
Said it several times before, it's time for a Constitutional amendment to end the bizarre anachronism of the Electoral College and replace it with the election of the president by the popular vote and in the event no candidate receives a majority with a runoff.
Our votes don’t even have an opportunity to matter in many states. Where I live it literally doesn’t matter who I vote for or whether I vote at all. But people will want to stick with a defective system because it will more likely result in outcomes they want.
To be clear… you think leaving government in dementia Joe’s hands is the same option? I’m not a Trump supporter and so not want him as the nominee.. but grandpa Joe is terrible. There are plenty of better options out there on both sides than these two crooked bumbling liars.
The electoral college system is operating so strangely right now that I have to think it’s ardent defenders are being at least somewhat influence by motivated reasoning. There is a theoretically (though im skeptical even here) valid reason for the college, trying to protect the rights of the smaller states. But I think we can maintain the elevated voting power of small state citizens, and still fix the worst part of the system by simply eliminating the winner take all element. Then a landslide victory could earn a candidate the totality of a states electoral votes, and a competitive state would give nearly half of its electoral votes to each candidate. Then at least electoral votes would be theoretically in play in all states.
You can't blame the republicans for wanting to keep that little tidbit of democracy, it's worked in their favor more times than not. The Dems have won the popular vote and lost the electoral college. I'm guessing here that if the dems have the power, they will try to get rid of it.
Trump is only 3 years younger and a raving lunatic. He wants round up all his political foes and have them arrested. How democratic.
