WASHINGTON (AP) — The IRS announced on Friday it is launching an effort to aggressively pursue 1,600 millionaires and 75 large business partnerships that owe hundreds of millions of dollars in past due taxes.

IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel said that with a boost in federal funding and the help of artificial intelligence tools, the agency has new means of targeting wealthy people who have “cut corners” on their taxes.

“If you pay your taxes on time it should be particularly frustrating when you see that wealthy filers are not,” Werfel told reporters in a call previewing the announcement. He said 1,600 millionaires who owe at least $250,000 each in back taxes and 75 large business partnerships that have assets of roughly $10 billion on average are targeted for the new “compliance efforts.”

Yeeesss!!! Let the dogs lose. It's a shame that a certain group doesn't want the IRS to have money to go after the big guys

All for getting those that cheat. But something tells me this is just for show. The problem is the tax code. More than it is people illegally doing things. If we would just simplify the code…we could solve the problem.

    Hope they get the cheats!

If they know they cheat why have they allowed it in the past? Sounds like political theatre.

Hmmmmm...is Hunter Biden among them; or, has the statute of limitations run out on the fine son?

100% I would vote for him to be part of the 1600 people being reviewed by the IRS.
For some reason, I fathom that he won't be treated accordingly...hmmm, what could be the reason why?

I mean, he won't be part of the 1,600 because he has already been criminally charged. What else are you looking for on a tax charge?

The IRS is just a legal version of the Mob. I've seen it with my wife over the last 17 years. 18 different tax accountants and only 1 year where the IRS didn't flag her tax filing for some new law that went into affect a year earlier. The IRS has been a scam for decades with only one goal - extort as much money as they can get away with. Watch who they go after here - all small fish, no big fish. Small fish who don't have the resources to fight the IRS. The IRS, the only government entity in human history that can go anywhere in the world. The KGB would kill to have that power.

Hating on the IRS is like hating on the refs in a football game. It's lame, played out and intellectually devoid of realistic change. And you can't play football without a ref.

I’m flabbergasted by some of the comments, and emoji’s, in this thread. The same people who say the current DOJ (but, of course, not the previous one) is “weaponized” liken the IRS to the Mob. SMH.

I suppose they actually prosecute, as opposed to letting the clock run out and allowing him to go free. Criminally charged? Great - now what?
