Sad when a 19 year old child shows greater wisdom than almost all of the adults on this message board.
I respect her statement for sure. At the same time, I'm not sure how these sorts of protests further their cause in any way. At least they weren't blocking traffic or damaging property though.
Sir, this is a Wendy’s. Sorry, couldn’t resist. It’s Friday and we might win a football game tomorrow.
Burning fossil fuels in order to move us forward in some other tangible way beats the snot out of burning them just to leave a trash pile in the middle of the Nevada desert after burning something just to watch it burn.
Absolutely 100% screwed up thinking. The system that has brought better housing, better food, better medical care to billions is the problem. Millions of people trying to enter the USA because "capitalism is the problem"....sure. 200 years ago you worked your farm to feed your family and died around age 45...and that was if you had it "good." Now, you live to 70+ in the land of plenty and, by and large, your willingness to exercise, eat well, drink moderately can permit you to live to 85++ in decent health. Yeah, capitalism is a bummer...save for all the people who do not participate in it.
How many people in this thread, who would have no idea who they are, are discussing them and their causes? Seems like they did, in fact, further their cause.
I still don’t know who they are specifically but understand that their cause is climate change. I assumed it was environmental or climate related immediately when I realized it was a protest because it seems most similar protests seem to be in recent years. I heard someone who thought the protest had something to do with economics or wealth inequality, maybe thinking back to the days of Occupy Wall Street. I believe climate change is real and many people on here discuss it because we follow and care about politics and other issues. I very recently listened to a podcast where Sam Harris had on an expert talking about it. But I am not sure if this board is a good gauge of the general public either. Civil disobedience is a tradition and I get it. I don’t want them physically harmed or anything. Any punishment needs to be proportional as well. It’s just annoying to me to have people disrupting an event like this for almost an hour and not something I really want to encourage on either side. But again, they didn’t block traffic or destroy property or hurt anyone and I get that distinction too.
