Not comparing Harbaugh to Napier was kinda the point of the post aside from firing him after 2 or 3 season might mean we never see the fruits of his labor come to light. And to be honest Napier has won everywhere he's been a head coach at. They all start somewhere, now we see if he can win at this level. Not sure it's fair to hold the fact that he has won at what ever level he came from against him. He was at ULL and ruled that division after turning the team around, now he's given a shot to see what he can do here. Everyone starts from somewhere, of the 5 active HC's with a title , Dabo was a WR Coach before given the chance to be a HeadCoach, didn't win right away but now Saban is the only coach in CFB right with more Nattys then his 2 and both of Dabos came by beating Saban, Jimbo was an OC before getting a chance as a head coach, Got himself a title, Kirby also was a coordinator that never had Head coaching experience, and now he looks like the second coming of Saban, Mack brown coached for 20 years before winning a natty. My point is there is no "proven" coach till they do it, and no reason to assume he won't turn our program around Like CBN has done at his other stop till he doesn't.

The post you were referring to was a poster said maybe we should reduce CBNs pay till he proves he can win like they did Harbaugh, I replied that they only cut his salary after 6 years of not winning anything or being relevant in his conference let alone the national scene.. were not there yet with CBN as he just played his 1st game of season number 2. And be honest he would never make it here 6 years like Harbaugh did with out winning.

And you're not wrong about the Norvell comparison is closer , which is looking like not a bad thing a this moment.

I'm team Gators as I thought we all were. What's good for Napier ultimately is good for the Gators. "Team Napier" is "Team Gators" as if he fails so does the team. Thats an odd take from a Gator fan.

He’s probably here at least two more years if not very likely three to work out the kinks. Everyone better be hoping he is good or I’ll be collecting ss by the time we win big again. The shortest path to success is right now.

Its not odd at all and they are not the same. Was Team Mullen, Team Muschamp, etc the same as Team Florida Gators? I dont think so.
I hope the current coaching staff is successful as I have hoped with all the prior coaching staffs. That doesnt mean I'm buying the rationalization of poor performance.

For the record, I have been a proud Florida Gator for a long time, including academics and virtually every sport, not just football. I'm team "Florida Gator" all the way.

I've been following the Gators for as long as I've known what football was, so for over 50 years now. Ups and downs along the way, a proud graduate of UF and I'll bleed orange and blue until the day I die. Go Gators!

So when you say your not "Team Napier" does that mean you hope he is not successful? Are you hoping there is another coach to come in you could better get behind? I'm don't believe being "team Napier" as you put it means we want to lose, on the contrary actually , We want him to win because im not sure how you see it but if he wins as does the team.

I also don't believe we should be inching toward the ledge after the 1st game of the season. We were an unranked team who most pegged us to win 6 games or less yet after losing the very 1st game of the season to a ranked to a back to back conference champ all of a sudden the wheels have fallen off? We haven't even had a chance to see if there has been progress made since last year. Aside from the unfortunate self inflicted wounds that cost us the game 1bour defense played extremely better then last year and it has been trash for the last 3 seasons or more. We only missed 3 total tackles vs. Utah that's a HELL of an improvement from what we've gotten the last few years where we couldn't tackle for shit.

Our QB also played much better than many thought he would. Three for over 300 yards and 70% completion percent his 1st game

Last year AR only eclipsed 300 yards twice (threw for 200 yards or less 7 times, 66 total yards vs mizzou) and completed 70% or higher twice (didn't get more than 60% any other game, avg 53% on the year) so those 2 important aspects already look on the up and up. But as the saying goes....only time will tell. Of course wenhave to.see the rest of the season to actually do that.

For the record I believe you're a gator through and through , now here's to hoping we are all happy this season Go gators!!!

Let’s be honest, Norvell probably wouldn’t have made it to year 3 if he were coaching at UF. Just look at the reaction after 6-7 and this last game.

I had my first "calm the hell down moment" as a Gator, a long time ago. It was '64, and "Super Steve's" first year as the starter (Soph). He was already showing why he is so special by bringing the Gators downfield in the final moments, again - to set up a short FG to pull out the second of two consecutive wins over the Bear and Bama. We missed the damn FG, Bama slunk out with a win, and I went apeshit. Of course, I was 12 years old then and full of piss and vinegar, which served to make my behavior even more intemperate. I don't have that kind of energy anymore and the '79 season pretty much knocked the majority of the stupid out of me (FB wise) for good.

PS I feel a little sorry for the dedicated Gators who never saw Steve as a QB at UF...or any of the dozens of other great players that distinguished themselves while wearing the O&B during the "Silver Sixties." Old film is great, and I do watch it once in a while. But what a privilege it is to have experienced those times. Or at least have them brought to you by Otis Boggs and Ted Covington from "high atop beautiful Florida Field." Through the ups and downs, I've actually learned that the greats never give up and that no one, great or not, is guaranteed success. I suppose that in the long run, you either mean it or you don't - and that just has to be good enough.

We need those older Gators. Being part of the Gator Nation is a legacy. Highs, lows, and lots of hardship before we got that first title and the ones that followed.

Yeap..these younger Gators don't know the years and years of suffering and " wait till next year ", along with a rough probation we did till SOS pulled us up...
