Any truth the reason two 3’s is because the special teams “coach” never updated his depth chart?

Would the number 9 make you look top heavy?

Coaches need to make decisions and players need to deal with them. Coddling players is just not good for a tough team. It’s doesn’t mean coaches have to be a dick like a couple on our last staff but they should still be able to lay down the law if they have their players respect.

Very few teams have legit scary punt returners and when they do, good punters go for hang time and coverage to get a high percentage of fair catches to prevent big plays. It’s ablsolutely more important to catch the a damn ball every time all year long( lsu) twice now against fsu, than get a few returns in a season. It’s a great weapon that gains field position even by getting a shorter high punt that is fair caught. Now this catching the ball inside the five thing on a full run…. All I can think is he lost track of where he was when the punter blasted it over his head.

I vividly remember our choice to constantly run KO's out of the end zone leading to us starting short of the 25 as one of the most maddening things in the history of watching football during the first half of last year. It was damn near every offensive drive starting with worse field position than just letting the ball bounce in the endzone.

I really cant go there too many bad memories.. I think you could pick any game last year and see our starting field position after kickoffs was probably about the 12 yard line...and yes blocks in the back CAN be called every play but unfortunately they were on our team. Theres a litany of stink on last years special teams...not just what I pointed out. Here is the first thing I found on Google which also listed our special teams as ranked 93rd last year...

To be fair on the set up of coaching responsibilities - Georgia also does not have an on field special teams coach. Like Florida, They also have an off field analyst in charge of/ responsible for special teams (Kirk Benedict). With this structure they won the last two national titles. So the structure can work.

That being the case, the problem is we likely have the wrong analyst in charge of it (Couch) and need someone else.

Yep. An army of analysts is also neither good or bad. It depends on the people and the CEO on whether or not it works.

Now I’ve never quite understood having a massive staff but no OC. Kind of defeats the point

Just read that Wilson was number "2" until the week of the game, and he changed to 3. But I thought he was 21 as the OP wrote.

CBN said it was an unique situation that caused that.

We can put Bozo the Clown as our special teams game changer for all I care coach...no coach..jock strap washer..yard man...dont care if he improves our ST disaster. Its costing and will continue to cost us games. Somebody needs to recognize and reorganize.

For the 8-man field goal defense, wha' happen wuz: CBN told the team "I don't want to see any jersey out there with just the number 3 on it."

So, number 3 stayed on the sideline. So did the other number 3. But so did number 33.

yeah, let’s not blame the players because our head coach decided he didn’t need a ST coach. Players have had duplicate numbers for years. It’s on Mr. Attention to Detail to spot it and call a timeout.

    “Coddled” LMAO.

Has it ever come up in a press conference, “Say, Coach, why have you not adopted the near-century-old best practice of having a Special Teams Coach?”

And if so, what exactly was the answer?

He mentioned last year that offense, defense and ST are all important part of the game. Doesn't seems like it's that important after watching how the game was played. How many times they go for 4th down, miss xtra point, go for 2, missed FGs, screw up punt situations?

I suppose that even the bozos in our press pool know that other teams have this structure and it's fine.
