Yeah, but in their favor they have field hockey.

Because pleated skirts and knee socks rock!

(Fond memories might be affecting my opinion)

    Great accomplishment for UF!

Our football struggles should never detract from the university’s #1 goal.

I don’t think they usually are. FIU either. Each ranking uses its own criteria, so they will highlight different school. Probably the best bet is to make a consensus ranking by somehow averaging the different rankings.

    In my head--- UF
    Cant fix this guy.

Top school.if UF is on your resume at our company and you are top 25% you get an interview. Not true of bama, fsu, ucf, ut.

‘how good is your football’ never part of the interview process

I get it for most careers. It never really had an impact in my mine.

So I'm with him. Football > Academics

It certainly had an impact on mine and my son's early careers. Probably no impact later on tho. Football is good entertainment but no factor in my career success. Academics trumps football in my book. That's why the University exists, but I understand that not everyone agrees.

It mattered for my career. Even later in it in one case.
Football is a nice distraction, but the 4.5 years I out in to get my degree means a whole lot more.

Don't sell yourself short. fwiw, my best friend teaches high school. He tells me it's gotten much easier for the students over the years & the kids are less prepared. As a former manager in HR (recruiting & training) for a Fortune 50 company, I can attest (statistically using test data) that year over year, inbound employees from college didn't possess the same critical thinking skills.

    Thanks for the pep talk!

Joking aside, you are certainly correct, and it is often less about critical or abstract thinking and more of the mundane walk and chew gum (or get to class and do laundry in the same day) sorts of life skills that are absent.

My oldest just finished his bachelors last year (not at UF, we no longer live in the State) and my youngest will start college in a year and a half. There really is so much more hand holding that goes on, especially with the incoming freshmen. Even my son was griping about how over the top it was.

Hate to sound like a crotchety old man but UF back in the 80's it was sink or swim, and nobody got too excited when people sank. Even I did not understand just how it was much until the fall of 1986, when I started at the College of Pharmacy. About half of my incoming class had done their first two years at UF while the other half were coming in mostly from junior colleges around the state. The degree of shock exhibited by those JuCo kids (and many were not actually kids, but older people who had clearly spent time adulting) was noticeable.

Good thing I entered in 1979. Florida's top major was pot, Bob Marley and Van Halen.

"She's got a drink in her hand, got her toes in the sand, wow!! What a beautiful girl..."

I owe UF for everything I have. Outside of my family, there is nothing that means more to me than UF.
