Definitely! He is the most deserving Gator that has yet to be inducted.

Spurrier went to the NFL, which he had hinted at for years. He threw his hat in the ring for the gator job but we went with Meyer instead so the he went with USCe.

At this point I have no issue with Meyers path. He is a kind of mercurial person, all in or not. That can change from year to year. After his last year here not too many were shedding tears as his last year was marginal.

I thought it was okay, kind of a feel good, nostalgic look back instead of the more informative gritty exposition I had hoped for. I suppose that if they’d really delved into the darker side of that period most of the players wouldn’t have participated. Perhaps they were advised to tread carefully by attorneys as well.

It was a PR piece for Meyer. I like the dude and always appreciated what he did for UF…but he’s always been a hired gun. I don’t have expectations for him like some do and I definitely don’t put him on a pedestal. He deserves to be in the ROH unless we come up with a criteria to keep him out.

Meyer deserves ROH. He burned out, it happens. If Meyer didn’t do the things that caused him to burn out we don’t win two titles. It came with the territory.

Importantly it shows the level required to win in the SEC. The dedication, attention to detail, etc.

His last year here was awful. Only reason I don’t hold that against him more than I do is because Foley basically begged him not to retire the year before. Should have let him quit when he decided he needed to quit.

I've always heard he came back because Foley told him he was going to do a big search instead of hiring from within.

Point is the same though, he should have just stayed quit.

It was bad. Had Cam Newton stayed it would have been a different story. But I don’t blame anybody for Newton’s stupidity, other than Newton.

Finally watched it all last night. Loved it! Brought back so many memories! When will we ever see that again?

Go to school here or play here. He’s just a mercenary hired to coach our team. It was his job, he doesn’t bleed orange and blue. Maybe I’m wrong and he loves the gators more than any of those guys with statues at tge swamp.

So by that criteria Billy D is not a Gator.
Mr. 2 Bits is not a Gator.
Mike Holloway (our amazing Gator track coach with so many nattys) is not a Gator?

I disagree that's the criteria for being a Gator.
Whether Meyer loved UF- that's arguable. I think he did and does today. But I could be wrong on that.
I'm not wrong in saying that Billy D is a Gator. As well as Mouse Holloway.

The 2nd most beloved football coach at Florida was Ray Graves, a Vol, Doug Dickey went to UF but even he would probably consider himself a Vol not a Gator.

If that is the standard then we almost never have a coach in any sports that is a Gator

It’s interesting to ponder counterfactual or alternative histories. If Tebow had gone to Alabama, maybe Shula doesn’t get fired. If Shula doesn’t get fired, then Saban goes somewhere else.

I definitely would not trade Tebow being a Gator. The thought of him being celebrated as a Bammer is too cringing to even contemplate.

Meyer's last year was terrible? We would take that record this year in a heart beat and be happy.

Some years ago, I read an interview where he described the pressure his father put on him to succeed. He said when he struck out in Little League, his father made him walk home from the game. When he called his father to tell him he was going to quit minor-league baseball and do something else, his father said if you quit don’t bother coming home. Just make sure you call your mother on Christmas.

I can’t even imagine living under that kind of pressure to succeed. No wonder every loss chewed up his insides.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I seem to recall that he also got in trouble for paying assistant coaches under the table. I think back then the NCAA set the salaries for assistants at something like $6000 per year. Galen gave them some extra money under the table and got in trouble for it.

How do you continue to fight if the charges are dropped? Sue for defamation, where the onus is on you to prove it? That would bring everything out into the public and maybe end up worse than it is.
