I don't think he's giving the same effort here. Again, I think he thought he could just walk in and win on talent and that due to said talent he wouldn't have to work as hard. I saw nothing innovative as far as his offense goes and, personally, I've rarely if ever seen an LSU team just give up the way they did against FSU. We'll see, but I think that run he had last year was fool's gold.
LSU's secondary was as stout as wet toilet paper. LSU WR's, talented players tend to catch the ball. LSU OL, couldn't punch it in on the goal line. You and I have different eyes.
I put all of that on coaching. All of them are 5* studs. And, again, uninspired offense. So, Jim, you literally have ZERO plays in the playbook where the QB comes under center? No push from an OL that only UGA, Bama and OSU could compare with? Only UGA and Bama and maybe OSU have similar talent. Kelly is just terrible and Norville did a great job. Saban with the same roster drubs FSU by 3 TDs.
I don’t know how good FSU nor LSU is. But sometimes good teams can get beat really badly. 2008 UGA was really good and we beat them by 39 points.
Got it, players don't cover receivers, get push on the OL or catch passes. Every 5* is 100% accurately evaluated in high school, none of them end up robbing smoke shops in Lincoln, NE. If Saban were coaching UF on Thursday we would have won by 11 TD's.
Your statement "Pretty clear that LSU has the better roster" cuts no bait with me. You either win or lose by the scoreboard, not because of "pretty or better rosters". That's what succssesful teams do, win with the players available. Not loving on FSU either, I was for LSU. Norvell is doing something right however, and IMO it starts with Travis at QB. Kid is just good.
They had a lot higher expectations than we did for this season. Hard to believe, but this was a much harsher blow for them than our display of buffoonery was for us.
I am still trying to figure out where people keep saying that this is just an average Utah team. Based on what? They won their conference 2 years in a row, and the coach said " best team he ever had". But I am supposed to believe a bunch of keyboard warriors that this is an average team?
Perhaps that's a symptom of the athletes ND recruits and a reason he left for a school where he can recruit championship caliber athletes. I'm not certain Kelly is a great coach, but he's pretty darn good. Taking over after Charlie Weiss, his ND teams went 8-5 / 8-5 / 12-1 butts kicked by Alabama. I'm trying to remember when ND had NC talent and am just guessing the 1990s? They had a bad year (4-8) in 2016, but followed it by going 10-3. In 2018 they went 12-1, beating a handful of ranked teams, but get their butts beat by National Champion Clemson. In 2020, they beat #1 Clemson during the season, but lost to them in the ACC game. So, yeah, he couldn't get over the NC hump, but he sure doesn't "suck." Edit: I'm not 'Domer either. I got zero love for them.
Utes set an all time attendance record and their fan reaction measured by seismograph set up outside the stadium registered similar to a magnitude 1.5 earthquake. I’d say that their fans aren’t average either. Can’t figure out how to link the article but it on KSL NewsRadio Sept 1. Let’s hope our fans can go seismic in support of the Gators in two weeks, and at least a little seismic next Saturday.
They were down 8 starters including their starting QB, #1 TE (who absolutely torched is last year), and #1 DL. Without those guys yeah, they're an average team.
Talent seemed to be lacking when I watched Notre dame play the truly elite teams. He always put legit top 10 teams on the field but didn’t have the horses to beat the best. I don’t think that was the case this weekend though.
Maybe he sucked at prepping LSU for this game, but to claim that he sucks is pretty far from reality. I asked the Googles about top ncaa football coaches and found these: #6 College Football: Ranking the top 25 head coaches | College Football | PFF #6 Ranking the top 25 Power Five college football coaches entering the 2023 season #6 Ranking college football coaches 1-133 for 2023 season #5 Ranking the Top 25 head coaches in college football in 2023 #5 https://www.si.com/college/mississi...ootball-head-coaches-ahead-of-the-2023-season These were the first five - I didn't skip any. It's pretty unanimous that he's considered a top ten coach.
