Kelly does suck. IMO, he thought he could waltz in and win on talent alone. This was the epitome of "outcoached" as it was pretty clear that LSU has the better roster.
Kelly is an overall good coach but no one has ever confused him for a truly elite coach. He's a lot closer to Les Miles than Nick Saban. He's going to have games like this. They should have known that is what they were signing up for.
I’ve said before I didn’t believe lsu was an elite team just yet. They are a decent\ good team. There’s a huge gap between top 10 and a national title.
That can't be true. I've heard that it's only Gator Nation that is insufferably difficult and unrealistic.
Some Ohio st fans are ready to fire Daly and they won. Auburn fired their coach last year during year 2. And so it goes... Florida fans aren't unique in demanding excellence contrary to what many here say.
I have a hard time believing that Kelly sucks. He's been pretty darn successful from Cincinnati, to ND, to last year at LSU. They laid a stinker (esp. in the 2nd half) against FSU. No reason to judge him on that alone.
After last years loss he had the team going. I suspect he will again, for who knew LSU after last years loss would end up winning the west. Their fans will cool down when they start beating more teams.
LSU had the better roster? Going to disagree with that, at worst that was a relatively evenly matched game talent wise. FSU was incredibly undisciplined taking several 15 yard penalties and still rolled. If that is a team with worse talent, then Norvell is the best coach in CFB.
LSU is light years better than UF right now. They just ran into a very good FSU squad. We shot ourselves in the foot a half a dozen times in losing to a decent but not spectacular Utah team. Part of it is inexperience and trying to catch up on talent. Part of it is unforgivable boobery.
They look nice, but I still don't think they have the talent across the board. LSU, IMO, had better players, but was uninspired and executed like crap. Also, Kelly's offense is extremely vanilla. Seems like it's all slants and hook/stop routes.
Just the eye test. FSU had a dozen or so players who look NFL caliber but LSU has those guys across the board. When they weren't sloppy, they moved it rather easily. Not saying FSU sucks as they have a nice team, but I'd still take the LSU roster over theirs. IMO, Kelly just sucks. Miles would have at least gotten better effort out of the team.
You're right, he doesn't suck. But I know some ND fans (ew) and they all said "yup, that's a Kelly team" meaning losing the big games and the statement games, but winning the games he is supposed to win. So not sucky in the sense that his teams usually don't get upset by big underdogs but it also means his teams tend not to break through in games on the big stage.
