Duke’s Riley Leonard outplayed Sam Hartman last season vs. Wake Forest. Remembered thinking I’d be happy with him.

 

Duke’s Coach- another one that did big things in year one. Most don’t talk about him but the man can coach.
Just look at tonight, 13 point underdogs and the man had his team ready.

 

Hmmm- another coach that doesn’t need 3-4 years ESPN article after his first season:
One outstanding season as a head coach earned Mike Elko ACC Coach of the Year honors — and a nice contract extension.

Duke has reworked and enhanced Elko’s contract after he led the Blue Devils to a 9-4 record last season, and their first bowl appearance since 2018.

 

Mike Elko is a very well respected coach in the industry. He will get a bigger job before long, if he wants it.

Duke doing pretty good now with a guy only in his second year.

It’s the emotion or lack of it that concerns me with some newer coaches. Overly calm sounds great but you need emotion and overly calm does not resonate with kids. They see emotion as being invested. That emotion is also contagious.

Yup, and most of that has been earned from his 9-4 first year as a coach showing with a team that had not been to a bowl game in 4 years. Pumpers did not like when I brought him up last year. He inherited half the talent Florida had and earned Coach of the Year.
