you got my “argument” 100% incorrect. I don’t think the govt ever should give away money to citizens. I can’t think of a single example I would agree with. (Maybe one exists?) I don’t believe in any form of cash welfare. I don’t believe in cash educational vouchers. Also, you should know, I have never given a gift card as a gift (for similar reasons) I don’t think the government should be involved in any social welfare as it (1) creates dependency and (2) leads to reverse bribery. I believe social welfare should be the province of churches and charities and private donations.
You concluded your “devils advocate” post with this: “I have no issues with any of these 3 things. At 1st glance they may seem extreme, but they really aren’t when all things considered”. Which would indicate you were actually ok with these cash payments, or at least how they are applied. If you are against cash payments, seems strange to be ok with the most liberal and possibly wasteful usage of them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The 14th amendment does not guarantee the right to public education For t guaranteed the right to equal access to public education. You are saying that our constitution demands public education. That’s not true. It demands everyone have the equal opportunity to use public education if available. There is a difference.
The question was whether or not public schooling is in the Constitution, not whether it demands public schooling. While the words "public education" may not be in the Constitution, there are important implications for its correct interpretation. The 14th Amendment Protects the Right to a Public Education The Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment provides that a state may not “deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” It applies to public elementary and secondary schools, as they are considered to be state actors. In essence, all American children have a right to a fair and free public education . . . per the Constitution. @danmanne65 was correct. I'm surprised anybody would argue this point, as free and fair public education should be considered one of the factors that makes the U.S. great.
I’m not denying that it makes it great. I think every child should have the right to a good education. But the fact is the constitution does not guarantee free public education. It guarantees that if there is public education everyone gets access to it.
“Well public schools are in the constitution. It is an investment in the future. The founding fathers thought that it was a good idea and they were right.” Founding fathers did not say anything about public education i the constitution. The argument being made is the 14th amendment.. the equal protection law.. again does not guarantee anyone public education.. just equal rights to it if it exists. “As of 2021, the U.S. Constitution and its amendments do not specifically mention education, which is why (per the Tenth Amendment) the states are in charge of providing and regulating schooling. A federal right to education could be added to the Constitution via ratifying a new amendment.” I will admit I was wrong… just post the exact place where the constitution mentions or guarantees free public education.
Hahaha Really. You have no answer. You have been proven wrong and all you have is the black knight from Monty python.. fine we will call it a draw…. Feel free to prove me wrong. All you have to do is post exactly where it shows up in the constitution..
Here’s an answer Free Appropriate Public Education - Wikipedia And from the Florida constitution Exploring Florida Documents: Constitution: Article IX
So one law focused on those with disabilities and the other from the state constitution.. neither come close to what was said. Look I want every kid to have the very best education possible. It’s why I want parents to have the ability to put their kids in private schools if that is a better option But the statement was made that public education is in the constitution.. it’s not.. and that the founding fathers knew what they were doing … except they didn’t mention free public education. And your two links don’t either. Can we all just admit the first statement was a mistake. Go ahead and just say “ hey we were wrong in that one”. It’s ok.
Good grief. He even admitted he was talking about the 14thA. Just admit he was wrong. Stop playing semantics and moving goal posts.
Go ahead and link or show where it mentions public education.. as was the argument. It doesn’t If the fed said i have a right to free state parks then the state would have to provide free state parks (and if there were no state parks.. they’d have to make some). If the feds say I have a right to equal access to the state parks then the state doesn’t have to provide the state park .. just make sure I have access to any that exist. That jus the difference here. The Constitution, 14thA, none of it mentions guaranteed public education as a right. It guarantees equal ACCESS to any public education that exist.
9 posts in the last two days because you want some internet stranger to declare you were correct? Give it a rest, dude.
