Texas towns make it illegal to use roads to travel out of state for an abortion.

Travel in Texas is being restricted in several cities if the purpose of the travel is to leave the state for an abortion. Being done piecemeal town by town on a simple vote of the town council. I cannot see how this would be Constitutional but then again this is Texas.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/09/01/texas-abortion-highways/

For well over an hour, the people of Llano — a town of about 3,400 deep in Texas Hill Country — approached the podium to speak out against abortion. While the procedure was now illegal across Texas, people were still driving women on Llano roads to reach abortion clinics in other states, the residents had been told. They said their city had a responsibility to “fight the murders.”

That frustration is driving a new strategy in heavily conservative cities and counties across Texas. Designed by the architects of the state’s “heartbeat” ban that took effect months before Roe fell, ordinances like the one proposed in Llano — where some 80 percent of voters in the county backed President Donald Trump in 2020 — make it illegal to transport anyone to get an abortion on roads within the city or county limits. The laws allow any private citizen to sue a person or organization they suspect of violating the ordinance.

It is a big reason that I would have a hard time backing a Republican. Their stance on this issue is abhorrent. Any of these people whining and crying about “freedom” can go u-know-what themselves.

Even trump is advising Republicans to moderate their stance on abortion but they’re not all listening.

Could be in the same vein as when we say We are gonna kill FSU we don’t mean it literally. Hyperbole. Just a guess.

It's like when a president tells people to go to the Capital and fight like hell, a riot breaks outs, but then his follows tell us what he really meant ... "put down" in that situation probably means just bombarding them with "your ma'ma so fat... " jokes, right?

Weak effort, Texas. Difficult to enforce, more holes than a colander. Here are a couple of suggestions to tighten things up:

--Ankle monitors for known preggos. Slapped on by obstetricians. Perhaps installed on all women of child-bearing age? Too far?

--Prohibition against pregnant women leaving the state. Again, to be on the safe side (women are very tricky) no woman can leave the state without a signed letter from her minister, husband, and town counsel member attesting to her current barren state.

Use your imagination. Another poster said thieves should be put down and I see you didn’t have an issue with that. This is even worse they’re stealing peoples personal liberty not merely possessions.

I’ll allow for life in prison on a chain gang.

Absolutely, it's about control. I also like this quote from the Post article:

“The purpose of these laws is not to meaningfully enforce them,” said Neesha Davé, executive director of the Lilith Fund, an abortion fund based in Texas. “It’s the fear that’s the point. It’s the confusion that’s the point.”

Too embarrassed to share your thoughts or just don’t have any of your own? Probably the latter most of your threads are simply links to stupid stories from nutso right wing internet sites.

    SAD!
