I don't disagree with any of that. But to your point about open, fair discussions: Spreading rumors that have already been debunked is not "fair discussion." In fact, putting stuff out like that without checking its veracity is irresponsible at best - especially for an actual Florida fan. If it was done knowing it was probably untrue, then it's even worse. I also, along with many others, don't care much for the "abandon ship/fire everybody now non-sense" either. Jake Slaughter played Center in high school, and was recruited as a Center. He is very familiar with what’s required of the position. It might have been his first collegiate start as a Center, but don’t overplay the whole “played Center for the first time” thing.

Last season after beating Utah we overreacted about the team being good. This year we're overreacting to a loss to Utah as well. I still think we'll win 8 games. Mertz did way better than posters want to give him credit for. How we fare over the next three games will be a much better indicator of how good we are than a game where we did everything we could to not win the game. If we see the same errors against Tennessee and Kentucky, then...

 

I'm all for simmering down, let the year play out, and reassess at that time. I like what CBN is doing from an overall program view and I believe he will get time for this rebuild.
I think what has gotten people, including mysel, so riled up is some of these problems we are having normally wouldn't be expected in year 2. The problems seem to be of the nature of those that would be addressed in the off-season. Specifically ST and OC. Hopefully CBN is committed to do what's necessary at some point in the near future

We were talking about college ball so I assumed it was clear I was referring to this level but maybe not. High school ball in Ocala is not the same as going against an experience Dline of 2 time pac 12 champ. So you're telling me that his first experience Running the first team Oline as starting center on the road in a hostile environment there wouldn't be any hiccups or jitters? No communication problems? I'm not saying he did bad, but it's to be expected there be some communication issues working with the 1st team oline when he has not had any action with them against live opponents in a extremely loud stadium. I actually thought he did well physically aside from one whiff on a block where the defender blew right past him otherwise he held up physically pretty well but of all the position groups on the team the Oline is the one most predicated on communication and continuity between other linemen and the QB. I figured we would have some of those penalties all things considered but why would people be blaming the head coach as if they don't teach and preach against false starts? Something like that is on the players, the coaches are not on the field or listening to the cadence or clap.
