Be interesting watching Colorado the rest of the way. After yesterday’s game they’re not sneaking up on anyone.
I have been impressed by everything Billy has done with our football program except for his game day coaching. IMO, he needs to sit back during the game and let his defensive, special teams, and offensive coordinators run things. Unfortunately, he only has one of the three. The one unit that has an actual coordinator was the unit that performed the best. He should be looking for young, energetic, talented assistants to fill the other two positions. But at least we have a GameChanger coordinator, whatever that is.
I’m in no way a Napier sympathizer. I honestly doubt he succeeds here. That being said our fans need to step off the ledge. it was a 7-3 game and Uf had all the momentum. Hell at 7-3 when we entered the red zone again I thought we might actually roll Utah even despite their OBVIOUS advantage in the front 7. it’s amazing how momentum can work in cfb. Delay of game, false start, missed fg, special teams penalty, one bad play on defense, a sack, a shanked punt, a 61 yard punt pinning you deep, and then an int right after halftime inside your own 15. So yeah. Things got away from us. Uf lost their composure on the road. It happens to a lot of teams when they play @ Utah. It’s a long season. People should Medicate more lol.
I don’t know if that was unintentionally humorous or deliberately backhanded. Kind of reminds of General Schwarzkopf’s answer when asked to assess Saddam Hussein as a military leader. https://m.youtube.com/shorts/2fP6zis8W_Y
The difficult thing is except for one year, we have been trying to be patient since Urban left. Unfortunately for Napier, GatorNation's patience level is low. Had he come in after Urban or even Muschamp maybe it would be a bit higher.
It's more than that. A loss to a better team is one thing but seeing mistakes from the past is another. Have we learned nothing? 1. Special team blunders which was an issue last year. Short missed fg, shank punt, repeatedly fielding punts inside our 10, and then a key penalty with 2 guys wearing the same jersey. How can a hc be so organized with every detail outside of game day and still allow this to go on? 2. He has hired 2 OL coaches and yet not only did the OL underperform, but 2 procedure penalties killed drives on short yardage downs. 3. He speaks of being disciplined and yet our wrs on a key down has issues lining up. 4. Play calling. 1 for 13 third down conversions won't beat even Vandy. How is it that on many 3rd down throws needing 10 yards we throw way underneath more than once. 5. Lack of urgency. With time running out in the second half you would think we were running out the clock on purpose. Does he believe in a 2 minute offense? Do we even practice a 2 minute offense? I've seen the same a year ago. And then as the camera pans the sideline BN seems cool and calm as if we had all the time in the world, no sense of urgency from the HC/OC. How long should the fans step off the ledge when from all appearance this looks like another losing season? How long should the fans simmer down when BN is getting paid not big bucks but huge bucks for coaching the gators. How long should UF fans be content when BN has hired an army of consultants and then we get this kind of product on the field. What major college team fan base would be any different? Bitching is part of the DNA in most fans, heck in Spurriers days many bitched and moan if we only won 9 games. At least for me, I feel a little better getting it out of my system. I could vent to my wife but it's just not the same. I'll always be a passionate gator wanting us to clobber everyone and I'm afraid we are slipping into a kind of irrelevance where mediocrity becomes the norm. A third losing season would not be the exception but a norm.
I think losing to Fresno State (Purdue) or Texas State (Baylor) is more miserable than losing to ranked Utah.
This was obvious to me all along. When you only win 5-7 games it’s going to be ugly. Fans have this fantasy that we can lose 6 games and still look solid.
I think we are closer than most think. Last year we had a team that lacked depth and guys playing for themselves. This year we have better depth (and talent) and a team that plays together. There were many mistakes made against Utah, but they are things we should be able to clean up as the season goes on. As for special teams, where's Brandon Siler's fist when you need it?
I'm thinking our ST's actually the lack there of contributed to losing 17 points. 1. Short missed fg which sucked momentum. 2. 2 guys wearing #3 a key penalty that contributed to Utah scoring. 3. Fielding a punt inside the 10 which ended up leading to a int near our goal line that contributed to Utah scoring.
PLEASE understand I am not calling for BN head, I just want to make key changes, hire a good OC and ST coach. I'd be very happy with that. Honest.
As a Purdue alum I assure you that is 100% not an unexpected outcome. In fact it was a far more entertaining game to watch to be completely honest.
Doesn’t seem like you need to sneak up on TCU to score roughly 50 points on them. Not trying to take anything away from Colorado though. I like that Kent State offense and their offense looked good.
