I agree in spirit. But the timeline for really knowing what we have and what to reasonably expect from both the team and coaches may be a little pre-mature, IMO.

 

well there is one positive about the game thread...not as much complaining about the officiating

 

We have three national titles and 8 SEC titles. I remember when we had zero.

 

This is interesting, thanks for posting. I was wondering about this...heard some talking head on a Sirius XM channel say that he's never heard of any team ever getting this penalty before and I myself couldn't believe it had never, ever happened.

While they are "only" 5 yard penalties, obviously what killed us was that it was 4th and 3...changed the whole complexion of the game, IMO.

 

Well dion knows after one game they are coming for for it all in game two.

 

And I’ve seen great coaches struggle. We we have is a bunch of fans with no confidence and the need to take a deep breathe and check to make sure their cojones are still really there.

 

From time to time, they have to suggest the new people read the rules and remember tgat they actually expect them to be followed. They give a really wide birth if you ask me and mainly only give warnings. They do suspend folks and definitely there are ones that aren’t here anymore by whose choice I don’t know. I do know tgat trolls when identified are gone. I for one an glad we can go off tge tracks a little sometimes but tgat we don’t have to listen to incessant whiny or any derogatory statements about our players..

 

There were some positives to the game:

1) Our defense is better this year. Remember how bad it was last year?

2) Mertz was thought to be bad, but he played better than we thought he was going to play. We certainly can’t say he cost us the game.

3) I like Odom at tight end. And, he’s coming off knee surgery 9 months ago.

4) Our team played hard to the end, even with so many things going wrong.

5) The mistakes are correctible. Let’s see how many get corrected by the Tennessee game.

 

Enough of the negativity! We should win 3 games…

 

I watched the Ohio State vs Indiana game yesterday. Indiana was way behind in talent but they played toe to toe with OSU through the third quarter. They made very few mental mistakes and were fundamentally sound. I was hoping our Gators would play mentally and fundamentally sound football against Utah. The mental part cost us an opportunity to win the game. I realize it's the first game and mistakes will be made. I won't start judging CBN until mid-year. If we are still making the same mistakes, then Gator Nation should begin to worry because it will look like a repeat of last year. I didn't expect us to win a national championship this year. Hell, I was hoping against hope to win 8 games. That may happen yet. That being said, I felt like our defense looked better. I still hate that our guys are looking over at the sideline while the other team is hiking the ball. We have some improved talent at the wide receiver position. Wilson could be a monster.

 

Shit last year in North Carolinas bowl game, they were in the same situation on a punt return and Pettaway actually swapped numbers because there were two #23 jeresys (in order not tonget a penalty) on the punt return team but they failed to notify the officials of the swap and got penalized anyways for that giving the ball back to Oregon just like we did. And that was under the watchful eye of Mack Brown one of only 5 active head coaches to have won a national title. Shit happens sometimes

It was an incredibly disappointing debut for S2 and it wasn't so much the loss but all the shooting ourselves in the foot. Utah was missing guys too so it wasn't like they didn't have some adversity to overcome.

That said, we have no choice but to ride this thing out. Hopefully, our staff can gets things cleaned up. Unfortunately, we've got some really tough schedules on deck so there is going to be some turbulence. Buckle up and alternate alcohol and Swamp Kings as needed to get through it.

But its not just one game....its been pretty much every game. That's the problem. Gator fans keep seeing coach-able errors and coaching errors on the field in virtually every game. I knew we were going to lose a fair share of games this year (my prediction was 6-6), but losing by shooting your own foot off won't inspire a lot of patience or confidence.

 

The guy's clearly a genius. There seems to be a lot of that going around these days.

Thanks for the perspective. That's a commodity that's been in short supply for a while now. Frankly, anyone who jumped onboard during the glory years and is now inconsolable after discovering that bandwagons have their ups and downs, might be happier on another bandwagon. Just a thought for the truly devastated among us. GG!

Sadly we had enough errors to shoot one foot off and damn near left only a little toe on the other. Week one was an utter disappointment but I would feel a bit better if FSU got steamrolled tonight.
