I don’t recall nearly as much moderator interaction with the negativity surrounding Mullen, both before and after Marco Wilson inexplicably threw a shoe.

    Odd.

    Wow that’s creative.

The altitude made us continue to false start and have Two players with the same number on the field at the same time.

Thank you for addressing the situation modestly. We as SEC college football fans are so passionate sometimes it is to our detriment.

Alot of those miscues along the line of scrimmage was due to losing g our starting center and tram veteran. The center is the guy who communicates the play calls to the other guys on the line. With out him it took a bit tonget it together and we kept shooting ourselves in the foot. Our preparation all spring and summer was with him heading up the line, then his lingering injury caused us to go with slaughter who had never played at Center and basically got his 1st real gator game experience on the road against Utah in the season ope er in a loud hostile environment. That's a tough job for a young guy.

Would you let it go already? The false starts were mostly due to losing our veteran player and starting center and having to start a player who played center for the 1st time at this level. It just happened to be in a LOUD hostile environment on the road. That's not easy when he's responsible for all the communication along the line. The jersey # mix up was because the players (marshall) confused the call punt safe vs punt block, where one of the other calls for either Wilson or Marshall in the play. It happened , just let it go. How many times did it happenin the game? How many times has it happened last year? Just this once yet act like it's an regular occurrence

Funny how I’ve never seen that happen in 40 years of watching football and you seem to want to dismiss and excuse away the lack of simple execution by a staff who are so focused on detail. We had tons for false starts last year often in critical situations. Blame the “new” guys and a “loud” place, like these guys haven’t played in loud stadiums before.

Was the noise the reason we only had 8 guys on the field for the FG attempt? Come on

New season, so far the fundamentals still aren’t there but the excuses keep piling up.

We will see how the season plays out and go from there.

I’m glad it’s curbed because I can’t stand listening to all the negativity. Leave tgat for the imbeciles on Facebook. I know I get as irritated as anyone watching us not play up to our capabilities.

I think some people are getting tired of the seemingly double standard that it seems like there is.

There’s no double standard, they don’t put up with constant negativity and I’m glad they don’t.

They’d better buckle up. Talking Season is over. They can’t stop the games. They’re coming.

Absolutely. I’ve said multiple times we NEED Napier to be successful. Getting into a never-ending hire/fire cycle is disastrous. Our fastest path back to being a prominent program is predicated on Napier being successful. I WANT Napier to be successful.

    I also live in reality.

You are likely saying this because you agreed with the negativity in the past….

I’m by no means a sunshine pumper, but rationally, why is what happened a surprise? As i said elsewhere, last years bowl game is kind of where we started. How we go from there, to beating a rank team at their home, across the country, just doesn’t seem realistic.

Let’s look at where we are starting:

    Compared to last year

    - We have QB who has had a checkered history.
    - take away running ability of QB
    - take away threat of significant downfield passing threat
    - factor in that some non trivial number of picks will happen on anything beyond a 10 yard pass - and figure each pick is effectively a 40-50 yd field position net loss
    - take away the running game, for now, given a mostly new OL.
    - we started out with 3 years of absolutely horrendous defense. Do we really think we jump from there to an above average one?

Pretty much everybody expected multiple losses. The consensus was something like 5.5 wins, which means we lose a vast majority of games against good teams. Typically when you lose, it looks ugly. I guess people thought we’d lose 6 games but somehow look great. The fan reaction is exactly what I predicted. I am no football expert and don’t spend a ton of time in the sports forums, but damn, for people that do, it sure seems like many lack any perspective.

We had one of the best play callers in the nation the last few years. Where did that get us? We said we wanted a program builder. But now everybody is whining about play calling. Given what I articulated above - no QB running, no running game due to OL, and not a significant passing threat beyond 10 yrd, exactly what kind of play calling are you expecting?

When we look at GA, or even Bama, are they known for their play calling? I don’t even know who the OC is at each this year. They do it with top talent.

Will Napier be able to replicate that? I don’t know. But if that is what we want, we are going to wait to find out. This season on the playing field won’t tell us a lot.

Either Napier is the next Saban / Smart, or maybe he’s the next Ron Zook. I don’t know. The upside of Ron Zook was in spite of his inability to create consistency in the field, he stacked the team with talent, which made coming to FL a no brainer for Urban Meyer.

I don’t know what comes next, but if the team only wins 5 games, that’s what I expected. It will be ugly. I wont like it but I’ll accept it. Hopefully Napier brings a top recruiting class, and next year we start to see some improvement, but again, still 2 years out from top 5 contention.

Or we can pitch a fit, and start all over again, like we have 4 times in a row.
