My husband used to sing Pirate Looks at 40 to my youngest before she went to sleep. Took the girls to Buffet concert(we were on the lawn) and when he sang it she went to sleep,

Jimmy Buffet was always hanging around our pool when we lived in Florida. In Florida fashion I had a large, colorfully painted parrot carved from balsa wood, perched in a hoop hanging from the ceiling in our lanai. The first Jimmy Buffet parrot was nearly 3 feet long and dominated his spot in the corner of the ceiling. Ten years of exposure to the elements caused his plummage to fade and he developed a lengthy crack in his long tail, so we replaced him with another balsawood parrot. Jimmy II was similarly painted but not as long as our original, measuring 26 inches from beak to tip of tail. He occupied his hoop in the lanai until we moved here 5 years ago. By the time we moved Jimmy number 2 was showing his age but made the overland journey with us and continued to hang around our Colorado garage until he was taken down and shipped out last year.

Both parrots were acquired from vendors selling these parrots at Palatka Crab Festivals. I wish I had kept Jimmy 2. He would be hanging from a hook on my front porch in tribute to the one and only original.

    RIP Jimmy Buffet.

    Impact?

My 19 year old texted me from college, she wanted to see if I was OK

My 17 year old said it was the first thing she saw on her phone this AM.

My 13 year old boy is a little less sentimental and not quite the music buff of the older two yet

I'm not the star struck kind. But this one feels like Oct 2, 2017 did.

Everybody here seems to like his ballads which were all great but I always liked the lighter side of Jimmy.

My favorite was always The great filling station holdup. Guess you had to be a child of the 60s to appreciate that one.

Distantly in love was always my fave.
Had a bit of everything that made his stuff great, even if it wasn’t the typical sound. Great travel, love, wistfulness, a full story, and Jimmy.

Love your last sentence and how you described that (woven.....). I know Caroline Street well from my ventures down to KW. I can almost see the images/feeling you are referring to.

Gone far too young....lil bit in shock that he's gone...another part of my past that is now gone....

I spent Christmas of 2003 at the Club Bali Hai - Moorea, Tahiti, located on Cooks Bay, which is the subject of Jimmy's song "One Particular Harbour".

Photos do not adequately represent the beauty of that spot........

Was never a huge fan but this song is amazing - released before his whole “shtick” started. Reminds me of CSNY.

Do you remember Eaton St.? That's where I lived the first 19 years of my life. My next home was in Gainesville. I've been blessed in the places I call home.

One of the best doughnut shops ever is on Eaton. One of my favorite hotels is the Simonton Court on Simonton and Fleming.

Back in my day, the doughnut shop (if it's the one on the corner of Grinnell and Eaton St) was a Cuban bodega. I lived 4 door down. As for Fleming St., it was practically my 2nd home--the public library was there!
    I'm getting homesick.:)

Those doughnuts make me wish I could teleport, but it's not the location I thought. I lived 4 blocks away.

Actually, that's not entirely correct. It's copyrighted 1973, which would put it before his beach success--this would have been his 2nd LP--but the tape was lost before release, so it wasn't released until '76--after Living & Dying in 3/4 time ('74), which had Come Monday, his first hit. And which clued him in on which way to go with his career.

    ...and 'shctick'?

C'mon man...have a little respect for the Mayor of Margaritaville, at least on the day his passing is made public.

Dude was legend, and he lived what he sung.

The song you posted is before he actually found his voice, and it's even techno enhanced, and unnatural (I have the CD btw; it's not bad--not saying that--just that he got a lot better--and it wasn't 'schtik').
