    Just curious.

Does anyone have an idea of the percentage of Power 5 Teams that have an Offensive Coordinator?

I am assuming that most teams do, but maybe I am wrong.

Was not Spurrier his own offensive coordinator? May be the exception.

Didn't Dabo used to call plays for Clemson? Stoops, defense for OU? I don't think there have been many highly successful HC's calling plays since Spurrier.

fwiw, Dabo was never a coordinator nor did he ever call plays, he was just a position coach (WR) prior to being a HC. Bobby Stoops always had DC, much of the time it was his brother Mike. The vast majority of HC’s do not call the plays on either side of the ball.

I believe the answer to your question is...100 percent.

Now, THE question is, how many of those OCs actually have some power to do something tangible to win (or even lose) a game, regardless of the HC's mental makeup? For UF, IMO the most egregious attempt to minimize the OC's philosophy and power to make change was Mus-take. Defensive coaches don't like offensive artistry.

After you finish that research project, figure out what percentage of teams with a winning record have an ST coach.

Drinkabitz just hired an OC this year and they put up 35 points yesterday.
He announced that he would now concentrate his efforts on Special Teams.

Dabo fired Billy at the end of 2010 for reduced offensive production.

    He's just bad at it.

In two games without Anthony Richardson, we have scored 14 points.

This is the same Anthony Richardson that most were very happy to see go, claiming we just need an efficient QB who can make reads and easy throws.

Without a QB who is the best athlete on the field regardless of who he played, Billy is left to execute the plays as he calls them.

So what does he do? What's his identity?

Trying to trick the opponent. Motions, misdirection, jet sweeps.

Even when he has a speed advantage, he negates it. Instead of going 5 wide and burning the blitz with highly ranked WR recruits, he decides to go with O-lineman trying to be TEs and keeping in RBs to block DEs. No attempt to spread out an offense to let his athletes show out. No attempt to give his RBs more room run.

In addition to an inability to identify opportunites with personell and formations, no clock management or situational awareness. Down by 3 tds, needing to score quickly? Still run precious seconds off of each play with motion, snapping with less than 5 seconds on the play clock. Elect to run the clock out at the end of the 3rd instead of get a quick play off. Run shallow routes instead of going for chunk plays.

What had me optimistic about Napier was the CEO moniker. That would be someone who delegates, who checks his ego at the door, who isn't afraid to adapt and change.

    South Dakota.

    Yes, South Dakota.

Exactly one spot above NW North Dakota Bartender Institute of Technology.

I've turned blue in the face wishing he'd add the 00 personnel to the offense... But he insists on the 12 personnel which would be great if we had two NFL TEs on the team. Even the 10 personnel would be an improvement... One running back and 4 wide receivers with speed to burn would be a high scoring offense set. At least one of them can get open down the field on a go-route.

We have speed to burn... we need the set pieces to best use it.

I’ve begun to notice Napier’s ego with regards to not letting go of playcalling duties (while not being the official OC himself), but didn’t realize all that he was doing wrong or failing to do with the offense.

I don’t see Stricklin forcing his hand. And I don’t see Napier as someone who likes his hand forced. He’ll either have that “Aha!” moment and learn from it or continue to insist his way is the way.

I seriously wonder if this is part of the problem in our new world of college football...generational wealth with no accountability.
