That right there is the problem….. Maybe it is youth this year but, damn, at some point we have to show flashes of potentail.
1 of 13 third down. Not a consistent QB, let’s try all the backups to see if any of them can make a third down completion for a first down. Non aggressive offenses suck.
We got in good 3rd and short positions quite a few times, then screwed ourself with a penalty. 3rd and 10+ is always going to be difficult. The offense moved ok if you don’t have those penalties. Clean up some of that shit, and this team looks a lot different. Wilson, Burke, and Douglas all had some nice plays and look promising. If we can stop moving backwards, we have some pieces to work with.
What’s with all the pump-faking. The OL wasn’t giving Mertz time enough to do that. Seemed like the Utah D was just pouring into our backfield.
The Kentucky and South Carolina games are going to decide our fate. It is possible Napier already sees this and is behaving accordingly. The worst part about going 6 and 6 is it could very well mean another bowl game with UCF.
A rebuild is tough. Being patient blows. There was a good dose of stumbling and bumbling going on during that game but...with some development along the line and when some of these youngsters get more experience things will improve. I hope they can bring back the special in 'special teams'. Mertz was pretty good considering he was under a reasonable amount of duress. The team overall might-could use a bit more finesse. Coaches...details, the little things, please. I'm here for the long haul. Proud to be a Gator. Occasionally frustrated. But proud to be a Gator. Often quite critical. But always proud to be a Gator. On that note: Go Gators.
It's probably typical, but sure feels like a bunch of folks are reacting strongly to a game we weren't supposed to win. The QB/TE injuries probably gave people a false sense of security, but there's blocking and tackling too and Utah is ahead of the Gators in those areas. They're also a more veteran team that has had unusual continuity of coaching. That's one of the reasons they compete with the USC/OSU type teams. It's not going to be one of the best seasons in UF football history, but there's still a chance for these guys to win some games and get to a bowl game. I'm not ready to give up on that.
