That was 1 problem, but I saw a lot of Number 2 on the field all night.

In my opinion it is too early to tell. However here are some stats.

Gator coaches number of games coached to get to 8 losses:

    Napier: 14 games (6-8)
    Mullen: 37 games (29-8)
    McElwain: 26 games (18-8)
    Muschamp: 26 games (18-8)
    Meyer: 39 games (31-8)
    Zook: 19 games (11-8)
    Spurrier: 33 games (25-8)
    Hall: 35 games (27-8)
    Pell: 9 games (0-8-1)
    Dickey: 15 games (7-8)
    Graves: 23 games (15-8)

Anything pre 1960 I won’t bother with as the game as changed too much since then, plus 63 years into the past isn’t really relevant.

Once again, it’s too early to tell what the future holds for Napier at UF. But stats like these are worth paying attention to.

Non Starters don't mean true freshman/freshman, plus yiu can't discount the fact that Coach Whisenhunt has been there for 19 years with the same system at the same school with a lot of the same staff he has been working with for years. But I guess that doesn't matter either.

Let's not even mention that Utah is stocked with upper classmen
    They have:
    16 SR's/RS SR's
    29 JR's/RS JR'S
    16 RS Soph

    We have
    9 Scholly SR's/RS SR's
    17 JR's/RS JR's
21 RS sophs , half of which are walk ons.

Our team is predominantly made up of underclassmen freshman, sophs, and some RS's Sophs.

Yes, point taken. And since that was an aberration in what was otherwise a professionally coached game, I say we all just let it go and not read into it as a symptom of a larger problem.

Utah was missing 8 starters and had a 3rd string QB playing a majority of the game

When you watched that Oklahoma game, did you see a program in complete disarray. It was a mess. I think it’s much better now.

I pay attention to stats like these, but you have to pay attention to what happened on both side of those records. Galen Hall inherited a loaded team from Pell, I’m dating myself but I was at UF when Hall took over. His final record was 40-18-1 after years of .500 records and sanctions took hold. Spurrier made Florida a destination for talent and so did Meyer through great recruiting and and an exciting approach to the offensive side of the ball. Zook could recruit, but couldn’t coach, so he gave Meyer a decent foundation of a team to build on. I am trying to be open minded as to what Napier has inherited and what is his fault. The defense last year was atrocious!!! I saw it as a mix of a lack of talent and Grantham and Napier coaching. This year we have a significant turnover in our roster and the one thing I was definitively hoping to see improved was the defensive side of the ball. Last years team would have given up 50 to Utah yesterday. Now we have unanswered questions on the offensive side of the ball, but some really exciting young players.

Mental mistakes… I agree that this has to stop immediately and is directly related to coaching. I don’t expect this team to be good this year, 6 wins might be the ceiling. But I hope we can see improvement in multiple areas by the end of the year.

The Billy has got to go crowd… too early in my opinion. Constant churn at the head coaching position is a formula for disaster. Let Billy and staff recruit and see if we are able to rebuild in the right direction after two or three of his classes have a chance to come through.

I’m not seeing much Billy Has To Go. I think it’s more Billy may need to change his approach with staffing. At least that’s my opinion.

True. This is also Whittingham’s 9th season there at Utah. I don’t care if they were 2nd or 3rd or starters, the whole team and coaching staff is far more experienced working together in their system. If you think this isn’t significant you don’t have much understanding of a team sport like football. You think you can throw 5 guys together for the first time and expect them to be an effective offensive line?

Yeah. I can’t expect anything to change during the season. However, If the same silly mistakes and weird play calling continue this season and nothing is changed after the season then it will be the death warrant for BN.

No, but it's not unreasonable to expect them to not have false starts in multiple crucial situations.

**I’d say he could call more timeouts, especially in the red zone when clock is on 1 second. That delay of game penalty was a major problem. Why save them like he always does? Can’t take ‘em with ya.

**Could make sure punt returners put heels on 10 and NEVER EVER try to catch a ball behind them. 10 times last year we watched guys catch it at the 4 or 5 yard line. Last night 3-4 times did the same thing.

**Could call a play in which 11 players were on the field when the other team is kicking field goal. Doesn’t matter that he’s not the DC or ST Coach. As HBC he’s responsible.

**Could practice punt return without two guys with the same number.

**Could get it to playmaker early instead of late in the game. 7 of Pearsall’s 8 catches came in the second half when the team started focusing on him to get him involved.
