The penalty that stands out above all the rest for me personally is the illegal formation on 3rd an 1 in which Etienne easily picked up the first down. Why? Because UF was suppose to have 2 WR both on the left side of the formation on the LOS and our RT was technically and eligible receiver in this formation. So, 99% of plays run if a WR see's another WR on the line of scrimmage on their side of the formation, they should be off the LOS. This was the 1%. The formation provided absolutely no discernable advantage but was asking players to go against their instinct. Why put yourself in that position, I just can't make sense of it.

    In my head--- UF
bullying another member of GatorCountry isn’t the right thing to do.

I may not agree with what he wrote, but it wasn’t over the top heartache type posting.

The same #s are on the coaching staff. That was a killer. eating more than four minutes of the remaining six minutes in the game is inexcusable

Simply, it is the safety's job to make sure no one gets behind you. That is why they call them "safeties" and not "larger than a corner but slower, smaller than a linebacker but faster." You DO YOUR JOB. And Moten plainly did not.

Now, plenty of offenses run WRs out there to occupy the safety so that another person can do their job before he makes the tackle. That is mainly about a lack of awareness in the linebackers and/or a bad defensive alignment called.

Once a db falls down, the safety rolls the dice on who he lets go? I missed the play and am not rewatching it to determine what happened.
    Damn old people problems

the cb was beat, the safety was out of position. The safety took out the cb and kept him from possibly making a tackle after the catch.

CB is taught to funnel his guy to the FS, Marshall is on an outside trail the entire time. If you are supposed to have help to your inside, and it doesn't show up, you are going to look beat even though you are doing what you are supposed to do.

Why did we wait to play with a sense of urgency until the 4th?

That same intensity may have yielded a different outcome if started earlier.

And still we were only down 13 to start the 4th quarter. Still very much in the game in spite of how bad we’d played.

We will get past this but pressure is on now for coaches and players to produce an obvious improvement. The Tennessee game will tell us a lot

Thank you. The QB numbers (yards, comp pct) were good, but Mertz wasn't anything special. He certainly didn't look like a veteran QB out there. I also agree that Mertz did not cost us the game, but he didn't show me that he can do anything to WIN us a game, either. Still, small sample size (at UF) so hopefully the next two weeks of practice and a "gimmie" game will get him ready for UT.

Mertz didn’t look heisman worthy no doubt but he was a lot better than I expected and clearly not our weakness on offense.

That was really the easiest obvious mistake for me to accept. The others were peewee footbal mistakes.

That's odd on Princely. I thought he had a few pressures and pretty sure he caused one of the Utah holding penalties.

    Norvell’s record at F$U is:
    3-6 COVID
    5-7
    10-3
They are ranked 8th this year.
I seem to recall Nole fans were unhappy with him, can’t recall if they lost to Jax State under Taggert or Norvell.
Thinking F$U had better talent than us and certainly a better QB. So, after a dismal start, F$U has rebounded in his year 3 and perhaps this year. They beat LSU in the first game last year and we’ll see Sunday night. Maybe we Gator fans can learn something from Norvell’s transition from year 1 to year 3.

I gathered that info from ESPN's box score. He should have been credited with a QB hurry. Regardless, he played more D snaps than anyone on the team and had 1-2 stats.

If Kingsley is ready to go I think he should start and maybe play one or two series. Even though he’s a vet he has a new QB and new players around him. A few game reps before Tennessee might be good. But I also think Slaughter could benefit from more reps so don’t take a chance on aggravating an injury and keeping Kingsley in the entire game.

Utah only passed the ball 23 times and when they did they didn't really "need to" so if they had to throw the ball away before pressure got there they could do that. Utah also only ran for 105 yards rushing on a 3.5 YPC so even if he wasn't directly making the tackles, you can't say the rest of the team was missing him. The front 7 played the run very well so if he was setting the edge or blocking cutback lanes for other players to make the play, he was doing his job.
