The offensive line was a problem all night. I keep telling myself it was to be expected, this collection of guys have not played together in a live game. It seemed like they did not gel together at all. It was difficult to watch. They’ll get better with more game experience. A new Oline on the road in a “hostile” environment was going to be rough. Now special teams I got nothing. They need to start holding tryouts for kicker because it’s bad. Our FG kicker is not the guy. I’ll take a missed FG from 50 yards out but missing from 30 yards is not acceptable. To be honest blowup special teams and try again. It was as bad as bad can get.
No issues with the pick... Utah took advantage of mistakes. And the defense had a chance at multiple turnover opportunities (how we didn't recover that dropped snap by Johnson). The pre snap penalties & pre snap penalties are what I'm really frustrated about.
You had the pick, missed 4th down, missed fg (I consider that a turnover). They won't show statistically, but those 3 drives changed the game. Utah scored after all three.
played not to lose after that short field TD and I think it was the same formation; somebody HAS to see that and make an adjustment during the play. At least make the adjustment after the first sone. more because of untimely stupid penalties and OL got schooled played OK, but we got very lucky in the 2nd half with the over thrown TD pass and subsequent dropped pass for a first down don't feel bad for him, no excuse for that hold. The ball was already gone, just let him go. Also, afterwards, he didn't look like he cared at all that he got called. Struck me that he was getting beat and took some frustration out on the guy. First down got called back. and the early hype made him out to be an AA. I questioned an early article and was called out on it by one of the Mods. 3rd string for whatever reason, I was hoping he would get significant palying time this year based on his recruiting hype One thing that Mertz did that I didn't care for was keeping the ball when he had a free play. The ref was right in front of him tossing the off sides flag and Mertz runs for about 7 with 9 to go. You've got a free play, throw it down field! Lacked situational awareness on that play. Maybe he didn't see the ref or flag, I don't know.
FSU was just as much as a dumpster fire. They literally were thisclose to being on probation for the teams academic standing. To act like Willie walked into a better situation than CBN is obscene
Academic standing can be fixed in a year. Pretty easy to kick players off who can’t school good enough. Taggert should have been able to recruit easily, be bad all the relationships. Napier had none, yet Napier is killing it in that regard. Plus no turnover backpacks. neither walked into perfect scenarios but Willie definitely did walk into a better situation, his school had been bending the rules for decades, he could’ve flourished. Napier has a complete rebuild in every facet- including the administration, which nobody has been able to do at UF. FSU was in better shape according to their standards than we were by our standards
Playing a MUCH harder schedule with a much less talented team. But, yes, that sucks and is cause for concern. By the end of next season, it's likely to be much worse than Taggerts.
I don't know if Jimbo left that program in quite as big a mess as the one in which Mullen left UF, but I get your point. There was still considerable talent on that first FSU team though and no matter how you slice it BN is no WT. Similar records after 14 games don't mean much when you're playing in the SEC as opposed to the ACC. Just MHO.
I think 3 times we lined up wrong. Good coaching = See it the first time, call a timeout & chew some folks out & make sure it doesn't happen again. Not calling a timeout to avoid a delay penalty. Bad coaching. Not calling a play at the end of the 3rd Q. ?!?!?! Enough special teams mistakes for a season. If the 4th & 14 call was in fact the best call, it is a sad commentary.
Who knew a staff of 200 was not enough? How 'bout one more coach to make sure we don't have multiple numbers on the field at the same time?
The thing you can almost always count on is that the opposing teams will test our freshman DBs and Safeties... They will also beat freshman with trick plays... you'll see that too in the coming games..
The delay penalty was a killer... this offense cannot get behind schedule. His clock management leaves a lot to be desired.
Some have said it was on the other safety? So I apologies to the other safety if so... I heard Moten's name mentioned too. Do you think these cover concepts (cover1 C2... C3) are too confusing for our safeties/DBs, or is that just a bonehead mistake... and anomaly? The very first thing the defensive backfield should be looking for is the long bomb! It's the quintessential first play on offense to start the freaking game. Ever coach on the planet should know that. As should every DB and Safety. I can't believe the coaches not telling the players to watch out for that first long ball pass of the game. That's not a mistake that a Moten should be making in a game.
I did read your comment, you EMPHISIZED INCORRECT INFORMATION. Not to mention the gem at the end. To now suggest your comment was in no way related to the player involved is disingenuous at best. Austin Barber started many games last year, was considered better than Tarquin (transferred out) by a fair amount of people. Yes, I consider that a starter. I am well aware of Kingsly being out, look up up the game thread when I said "Kingsly is sorely missed"
